Who here plays Red Orchestra 2?

Machine gunner? I find myself just getting sniped all the time.  :(

I'd like to get better but the DP-28 is hardly the most exciting piece on the block. The Mosin-Nagant for me, if not the good old PPSH...

During the Beta stage trying to use the LMG in the realistic way was useless:

1) original maps were (are) to small (that's your problem IMO)

2) the recoil was so stupid and still there were people defending that on forum so I left.

Last time a tried an LMG I found it very different and some new map are really great for that role.

My biggest beef with the game are that the maps are too small. That's why I love maps like Bridges of Druzhina and Univermag... It's just unrealistic to be fighting over a 50 by 50 metre map... even in Stalingrad... A cool idea though is just to be fighting over a single house... but that's just too small...

I don't think it's unrealistic: in Stalingrad it was mainly urban warfare.

There are numerous accounts of enemies sharing the same house (Germans defending the first floor while the Russians were on the upper one). I'm reading Stalingrad by Antony Beevor at the moment; there are great accounts in it.

In this kind of warfare most of the time LMG must be used standing like a normal SMG.

The biggest problem, IMO, is still the "Spawn again" button that, like the "Refly" button, is going to award suicidal actions.

This can be partially solved playing Last Alive mode (can't remember the correct name), but it's not really popular.

Anyway that's the reason I still prefer DH Mod: the maps are so big that LMGs can be used in the right way.

I know that there was plenty of house to house fighting. (duh, it's Stalingrad), my problem is that you'd be forced to go into a certain path all the time which both sides would eventually learn and gameplay would stagnate. My dream would be a larger scale map over a wider area the same width and length as Bridges of Druzhina composed entirely of city streets with lots of room for manouevre, tank operations, deep operations and stay behind ops and the possibility to take over a house and hold it for a long time instead of being forced back by spawn area limits... I love house to house fighting but not when it's so linear. I want to be able to recreate Pavlov's house (which you can't do atm because on that map if you're forced back to Pavlov's house the Soviets have lost) in a map but it's just not possible because of the scale of the maps. Stalingrad wasn't fought over a 20x20m area. It was fought over a pretty large city, let's have that represented!

But I doubt that's possible under the game's engine.
