Any sim racer here? Assetto Corsa is in Beta...

By Kunos Simulazioni, the developers of "Ferrari Virtual Academy" and "NetKar Pro".

A real simulator, with awesome graphics and laserscanned tracks.
IF the netcode is going to be good then it will be the best racing sim out there (better than iRacing).

Can it be called truly a "simulator"?  On the track, the g-forces and vibrations you feel are giving important info about the car and track.  I would call it a simulation of putting a camera in the car and driving it by remote control.  Still a great way to experience racing and I have spent countless hours in games like Forza motorsports.  I was even inspired to buy my own "high-performance" car and drive it on the track and in autocross.

Same issue in "Flight simulators" to an even greater degree. The FAA will only call it a "Flight Simulator" once it has a full motion platform, otherwise it's a PC Aviation Training Device (PCATD) or FLight Training Device (FTD).

I would like to buy one, but you know...

Anyway the physic engine is going to be great, as the FF on the controls: they say the driver will have the feeling to be there.

I was a Go Kart driver during my teenage, and now work as a pilot. The race simulators like NetKar Pro, are more "real" if you compare with Flight Simulators. The Force Feedback in this race simulators are much more developed.

And NetKar Pro, Rfactor, Game Stock Car, and etc, are great "simulators"... Forza Motorsport and GT are great "games".

I never knew that driving a go kart could qualify one for a pilot's job.

I think was pretty obvius that with my sentence "I was a Go Kart driver during my teenage, and now work as a pilot", I was saying that I have a litte experience in both (race cars and airplanes) and, that is what I was using to give my opinion about cars and race cars simulators.

Driving go kart + flying airplane = race cars expert.  Got it.  Thanks.

I think rcsuardi's opinion is honest: some cheap go karts can be seen as toys, but other are real racing machines (I guess our friend was driving one of these): being the first step in the professional driver's career, karting shares many feelings with driving more expensive race cars.

So he can claim that race sims are closer to reality than flight sims. Nothing wrong here.

TKS man, you have understood what I was trying to say... And talking about that, I can recomend a very good Go Kart simulator, this one... http://www.kartracing-pro.com/

I do iRacing as well as flight simming. AC is on my radar for sure, looks awesome.

Eh! I've just renewed my membership to iRacing since a pair of years and I find it awful... The overall system is great, but the physic is really off. Luckly I payed only 12$ for the next 3 months. <_<

I'm reading constantly bad things about IRacing. I raced on it during a month, before the physic update and by that time I really liked the game organization structure and physics, but now all my friends that used to race on it are always complaining about his road cars tyre pshysics.

In my opinion, the best sim races today are NetKar Pro and Game Stock Car...

I agree with them; and if you think about the races on ovals, cars can't run the high line as they do in RL (except in Daytona and Talladega, of course).

Assetto Corsa is going to be fully moddable, so I hope in some Stock cars and maybe a pair of ovals (Lausitz?) in the future.

By now both the games will feature the Lotus 49, so we're going to compare the two sims, knowing already that AC will feel "easier" than iRacing; it's not suprising that Huttu has felt the real car more stable than the sim's car (during his test with the iRacing crew), since the physic is so irrealistic (you know, a race car who spins cornering at 35mph...).

I can reccomend LFS too: old graphic, bad sounds, but good physics.

rFactor 2 Beta is pretty solid, the early 60's openwheel cars have a great feel, we race the F3's everywhere!  AC looks awesome, Kunos, that's the NetKar dude isn't it?

2006 ;-)

It's sure that rFactor has the better netcode between all the other racing sims but I've not tried rFactor 2 yet.

Yep, cant wait for Asseto Corsa! It is meant to be have rFactor2 physics  with Project Cars visuals. I have doubts that it will achieve any one of these, but a happy medium would be pretty great too.

RFactor2 physics (start watching at 1:18) :

I dont usually like ISR, but this preview of Asseto Corsas's physics was pretty good

It's amazing.

Graphics is really good, sounds can be better with a new sound engine, and the tire model is the best.

FFB is very good WHEN you have set it right: very slow damping and no centering spring is the right thing to do, otherwise you'll not be able to have full control of the car, as it happened to me during my first laps.

0.9.8 TP is out there; it solves some problems about rendering (because of the monitor refresh rate) and fix the Elise model (the windscreen wiper was in the wrong rest position).

BTW Kunos has McLaren too...

Because nothing gives you the feeling on acceleration and speed as much as staring at a static bridge through a virtual living room window......

Ive been a big fan of Gran Turismo since the first game on PS1 lol but I havent done much racing lately, Kinda fell off with GT6 becouse it had potential but in the end it was just a big let down.. I do love racing tho.

Becouse football, golf and baskeball only require ONE ball!

Just noticed I'd wake up an old thread. So, iRacing is still ''the king''?

iRacing can't be beaten for an organised on-line experience but whether it's "the king" is definitely subjective and depends on what you're after. For pure drivability, AC is the one for me.
