How do we pick out 4K skins?

I've downloaded some 4K skins & others have been included by the developers....so how do we pick out the new better defined skins when we are choosing our aircraft skin from the menu before each mission? Thx!?

If they're 4k default then they should replace the default skins I imagine. I dunno, I'm just about to go have a look so I'll tell you if there's anything else you should know...

Rename them. Usually there's a "4k" somewhere in most 4k skin filenames.

If you don't know if it's 4k or not in the first place, find a way to open it in GIMP and check out its resolution.

 

Though, you won't be able to see them in multiplayer, on the off chance you have another player using the same skin if you rename it.

or you could just hover your mouse over the skin in the skins folder - 5Mb is 2048x2048, 16Mb is 4096x4096 without minimaps and 21Mb is a 4096x4096 with minimaps.  

 

Remember that the skins are only half of the effect though - the normal map also plays a part (as does the alpha) and a lower res normal map or poor alpha can introduce a lot of unpleasant "pixelly" effects to a nice 4K paint job when the wings glint in the sun.

The ones included by devs will substitute the old default list (make sure to check the 4K skins option in the graphic settings).

 

The custom ones downloaded from the community will be mixed with the rest of the custom ones, use the dropdown list when browsing for skins in game.
