So how do I get started with SweetFX, and particularly Fifi's preset?

Does it work properly with the new launcher?

Alright, got it working after some messing around. It would be really helpful if there was a sticky with instructions though. So people don't have to dig through several threads to figure out what's going on.

Guys, I have set up SweetFX through FlightFX for BoS (that had an idiots guide button to make it more or less automatic).

To set up for BoS, what is the exe, the "*IL-2 Application " or the "*Launcher Application " that I need to direct FlightFX to. Excuse my ignorance.

Posted

you need to set

game path: 1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game\Il-2.exe

data folder: 1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data

(unless something changed with this weekend's version)

Well, dunderhead is back again, got it working in BoS, but for the life of me I cannot work how to drop Fifis settings into it, then after that how to select them?

Also as I'm not using steam presumably I should unstick improve steam overlay compatibility?

To clarify the above I have got it to where I can click on Fifis setting in the load from button, but it doesn't load, just reverts to the standard sweet Fx settings.

I got a problem using Flight FX.

No matter how i try (according to reflecteds suggestions when crashes occur) i cant get IL2 to start properly when flight FX is running. IL2 just doeesnt start. Either nothing happens when i klick the play button or il2.exe crashes. depending on wether launcher or flightfx has been started first.

My Systemspecs:

Windows 8.1 64bit

Good enough hardware.

IL2 runs nice when i dont use flight FX.

Any suggestions?

Winger, see below, should work then:

you need to set

game path: 1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game\Il-2.exe

data folder: 1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data

Winger, I couldn't get mine to work until I deleted windows update KB2670838. Many others had the same problem.

Hi Pilotpierre,

In Wingers specs he reported he's operating Windows 8.1.

The KB2670838 update is a typical win 7 update and in Win 8 it is embedded in the system and cannot be removed.

Don't know if there are any win 8.x users having these problems and if there's a solution.

Hope so....

Setting the datafolder according to the suggestion did the trick. Worked fine. However sadly no access. But i came to the loginscreen. Wasnt even starting before. So i think i can consider my issue solved. Thanks for the help friends!

I've found if I launch FlightFx first then the Launcher and click 'play' the game will not load/run. However, if I first click the shortcut to pop the small Laucher screen up, then start FlightFX, then click 'play' on the Launcher screen, the game will run just fine and yes it looks rather nice :-)

ok, now I'm serioulsy cursing.

999th attempt to install SweetFX, and EVERY time I have to throw my BoS game installation in the sewer.

What am I doing wrong, please???

It's just

Extract or copy all the files into the directory of a game exe (keeping the file structure intact).

right?

What the hell is the problem then?

Even worse. I thought the simple sweetfx was better, but no good for me. I dont mind its horrible text interface.

Flightfx same fail. Had to reinstall game.

Is there a video tutorial or something that shows the procedure step by bloody step?

Setting up flightfx for Bos is just like this:

Setting game path to x\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game\Il-2.exe

Data path tp: x:\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data

And then selecting a FX preset file from the roll-down menu, and clicking "Enable Sweetfx"

Enabling adds the sweetfx files to the game folders, disabling removes them. Maybe there's some conflict for you, where disabling flightfx also removes critical game files, but enabling it should definitely not add files that corrupt your install.

And normally, this is something that a launcher recovery should be able to fix.

Strange problem. I can't help, sorry.

What Calvamos said, plus:

Check if you have the windows update kb2670838 installed, if so (and you have win 7) you will want to delete that update. Win 8.x has it build in and I can't help you there.

Furthermore, make sure that the files you can refer to are visible for the program:

no, no, no... I just want to focus on sweeetfx 1.5 right now. My s**** situation is just unlucky enough to try to add ANOTHER software. Let's forget flightfx.

I need a tutorial to follow step by step, and I mean step by step like a retard, otherwise I will never get out of this.

Notice that sweetfx works perfectly for me with, just saying, Next Car Game.

The conflict, spellbound, haunting whatever happens only with BoS

Flightfx is not an alternative to sweetfx, it just adds the sweetfx files to the correct game directories, manages preset files and gives you a slider UI for adjusting settings.

If you want to do it manually with no UI, then Smink's post is helpful.

Somehow it worked,  thank you all!  Only sweetFX 1.5 for me right now,  but that's fine.

Maybe I will find a way to have flightFX interface working sooner or later,  but for now I'm very happy with my settings: sharp,  detailed image with some retro taste in the colour palette and some vignette (love it,  so war-footage looking)  and rich,  deep shadows.  It's amazing,  thank you again.

Cool stuff, do you wanna upload a copy of your settings file so we can have a look? :)

yes, basically it is Fifi's text file, with little tweakings (bleached colours, darker blacks and shadows) and the add of the vignette thing

not really huge news

Glad you got it working.  I use Fifi's setting too and think they give the game a real gritty look.  Once you get used to it the regular game (IMHO), looks a little washed out.  Thanks again Fifi.  Would like to hear from others if they have setting they really like.
