I always use 4x, didn't like the image quality at 0x, but never tried at 2x... I have been very pleased with the graphics at 2xAA so have not really tried the 4x. I will give it a go tomorrow and see how it does.
Meagachilli Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 Honestly I'm really sick of chasing my backside. So I got my rift s headset today, knowing the VR requires some grunt but I wasnt worried at all as last week I got my new pc. A rather nice pc to say the least, i9 9900k with 32gb of DDR4 ram at 3200mhz all on an MSI Z390 carbon pro topped of with a rather measly RTX 2080ti......... Do you know what.....? I still suffer with FPS drop. WTAF. £3000 worth of gaming pc and it cant run VR at a constant 80 FPS. When in normal everyday running I clear 200 FPS at 1440p. Cant work it out. Cant work it out at all!!!!!!

Cant work it out at all!!!!!! You won't get max fps at all times in IL-2 or really any combat flight sim, with any current VR device or PC setup. I have about the same rig as you, and run with ASW off for the Rift S, and for the most part maintain 75-80 fps. Occasionally in some extreme heavy combat circumstances it can even drop into upper 60's. But is always smooth. So long as you get a smooth experience don't sweat the fps that much.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 Meagachilli, dburne is right. Don't be frustrated, it's not your computer's fault, the problem is that IL-2 is running on an older engine - that was built for a total different purpose than running two instances of the game at the same time. The limitation is in there, and especially the thread handling. One is stuffed with large parts of both instances. I just wish they'd modernize that too. They have modernized quite a lot of things in the past, even within the last 1 or 2 years, and implemented VR into a quite old, but regularly updated engine. And they have recently fixed a (few) glaring issues in VR, such as the prop disk flashing, and one dev was inquiring about "how much zoom we'd like". So I'm hopeful we're getting there one day too, together with a sun size and PP fix. ☝️?

Cant work it out at all!!!!!! What graphics settings are you using? Install OpenComposite to bypass SteamVR. Install Oculus Tray Tool (OTT). Set pixel density to 1.1 in OTT. Run the game. Using OTT set "Hud" to "Application Latency". Now look at the CPU and GPU frame times. With Rift S, you want 80 fps, so you have 12.5ms for CPU and GPU to render each frame. Try some different game situations and see whether it's the CPU or the GPU that is above 12.5ms. If CPU, overclock your 9900K or reduce CPU-intensive graphics settings (such as Ultra down to High). If GPU, decrease GPU-intensive graphics settings (such as Shadows, SSAO, HDR).
