Dedicated Art Thread

I've been getting back into art recently and I thought it'd be interesting to post some stuff and get feedback and to see anyone else art that they'd like to share.

Also if there is any artist you really like feel free to share some of their work.

I haven't really drawn anything in over 10+ years and I figured I better get back into it and increase my skills. I've always loved it and have been told I had a gift since I was a small child, I'm not so sure about the gift part (as you'll see) but I do enjoy it and want to improve.

Feel free to laugh at everything I post, it's all pretty bad.

Here's the last self portrait I did many many years ago (I think I was 12-13 years old)

Here's a recent one I did a few months ago, keep in mind I've had zero practice from 12-13 to now but I think this one looks much better (though it's not good lol)

Some random sketches I've been doing off and on, some of these are pretty hilarious in how bad they are but here ya go.

Spoiler

Upside down sketches I did of some artist.

Some pretty bad sketches though I do like some of them. You'll notice I didn't try very hard on some of these.

As a professional illustrator for many years, I’d say you have a great base talent to build upon.

Keep it up.

I recently started drawing/watercoloring a bit and I must say it mixes quite nicely with my love for warbirds

Very nice. Watercolor is my favorite type of painting and I plan on getting back into it one day.

Currently I'm just focusing on anatomy since it's one of the things I've always struggled with. Light/value is also another thing I really need to improve upon.

Ah, the famous/notoriouis upside down exercise using the Igor Strawinsky drawing by Picasso... :)

If you want to improve your skills it needs a lot of training and lessons for the basic knowledge.

Also books like 'How to draw.... ' or YouTube tutorials will help. In a way.

Here is some of my recent stuff.

Paper size is about A4 and mall face sketches I did last week to keep myself trained.

Not drawn after real life though but just tiny newspaper images.

Nice work, I completely agree about the training/lessons for the most part. Just gotta keep practicing and learning from my mistakes.

Here's some small things I did over the past few days, not great but I see some improvement compared to my earlier stuff. I do notice alot of mistakes though. (eyes are a particular trouble of mine.)

@216th_SilentEskimo

Here's a watercolor I did a few years back of an old barn/shed that was behind my house. I didn't really understand how to use watercolors or anything but at least you can tell what it is.

Nice work.

So much of drawing is SEEING.

Size relationships, shape...negative space, character and gesture.

You have a nice grasp of these things.

I miss drawing in front of the model, it's been years now.

I taught a figure drawing workshop for a while, which kept me in shape, but again that was some years ago now.

I seem to have lost the DRIVE to create art, and I'm not sure how to get it back or if I ever will

More recently I've created 3D illustrations,(using Modo, Cinema 4D, Zbrush and Photoshop) including some warbird renders and figurative stuff, but this last year I've let that drop as well.

I still enjoy painting. I did this for my daughter for Christmas. She loves Wolves. But I'm having a dry spell, at the moment, also. Need to try something new, I think.

learning blender. this was my 3rd tutorial. I had to try extra hard to avoid putting a large cylinder protruding from his crotchel region.

I'm learning blender as well, taking online courses from udemy. I have learned a whole lot more than what I did by just watching youtube videos.

I spent a lot of time learning to build clean meshes. It paid off as now I can model anything with perfect geometry - high res or low res. Same with texturing.

I can light well enough to get what I want, and can rig well enough to pose a character etc but not my specialty.

Of course after all that time perfecting my 3D skills I fairly burned out on that as well now.

Being burnt out sucks, sometimes you just gotta force yourself to do it though.

I find that if I force myself to do it then I'll get the craving back again, it does take a lot of effort though when I really just don't feel like doing it.

Honestly basic 3d skills and rigging is all I need under my belt. A huge portion of the Blender community seems to focus on rendering. I don't care about that at all. I just need models for small one-man-band type game projects. I'll be spending far more time in a game engine developing stuff than in Blender.

The one thing I am actually pretty decent at is making music. No school, no courses, no talent... just A LOT of hours and a bit of autism:

netscape try this free tool, you can easily sculpt and then export object and skin to blender:

https://pixologic.com/sculptris/

its better for organic sculpts

Thanks I'll check it out. I don't plan on doing too much organic stuff. First projects for sure will be lowpoly anyways (have to be).

And todays project... learned a lot.

A 3D model of a Zeppelin-Staaken R.XIV I did in Blender not long ago.

The DLZ-129 Hindenburg, also in Blender.

An unfinished concept I have in Blender for a single seat, super high-speed, high altitude level bomber. No defensive armament or bombardier. The pilot flies the plane to the target, then activates an autopilot and aims the bombs using a bombsight between his legs.
