MiloMorai Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 It is easier to train a 'pilot' to fly drones than it is to train real a/c pilots to fly drones. This was a statement on a PBS program on UAVs (Rise of the Drones ) the other night. 1
No105_Swoose Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 (edited) I watched that program as well....fascinating stuff. You're right: The Remotely Pilot Aircraft instructor said something along the lines of "It's easier to train someone with no prior flying experience than a rated pilot. Rated pilots come with certain habits already formed and that complicates their training." The instructor also said he made extensive use of simulations to train the newbies. It was interesting to see what looked to be a CH Products Fighterstick at the Predator pilot's station. Peter Singer of the Brookings Institution, a noted expert on drones, stated in the program that drone technology is about where aviation was after World War One. Here's a link to information about the program: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/military/rise-of-the-drones.html Edited January 27, 2013 by Swoose
