+1 vote for Thrustmaster T.1600M as "entry-level" joystick.

Is the only on 50$ range that use HALL sensor (same of Tm. Warthog) in X and Y axis.

Here a good review, made by simmer, no by "game bloggers":

The actual AV8R (-02 and -3) versions, due compatibility with consoles (XBox, PS3) is not good as the old AV8R-01 (PC only).

 ^^ This!

Looked on ebay for the FFB2. The used ones looked beat, and the only new ones were $250+.

Thrustmaster T16000 here too, works like a charm.

I've owned the Thrustmaster Cougar, Warthog, Logitech G940, CH, AV8R, and X52, but none of the them were as good as the MSFF2.   The PC AV8R wasn't bad, and its relatively cheaper price, makes it a good option.   I currently use the MSSF2, with the Cougar throttle, and Saitek Pro pedals.

Jason mentioned he's working with someone building a new Joystick.  He didn't give any details, but hopefully its a Hotas system without Star-Wars ergonomics.  If they copied the Cougar throttle, I'd be very happy as that throttle fits the hand better than any, with every rotary and button in a perfect location.  (at least for me :) )   Forcefeedback would be nice, but I don't use the MSFF2 because of the forcefeedback, but because it was the easiest of all sticks to put bullets on target.

I agree with what has been posted (and I've owned/used everything out there)

Used MSFFB2 or Thrustmaster T16000

You can find either one for 50 bucks or less. A Logitech or Saitek stick will not last as long, or be as precise as either of those - even though they have better ergonomics.

Thrustmaster Warthog Stick and Throttle, a Switch box and Trim controls through a custom made controls using a Bodnar board. An old thrustmaster elite rudder pedals have been hacked to work through the Bodnar board as well.

I use an x52 pro. I really like all the buttons it has, all the wheels on the throttle can be used for trim.

I see your budget is only 50 bucks so that limits your options.

I am quite Happy with my x52. I don?

Logitech G940 here, can fly all my sims just fine with it, and it has FFB. A complete set, but at a price.

MSFFB2. There is nothing to beat it.

I couldn't fly without Force Feedback any more....and the only stick that offers acceptable Force Feedback for me is the MSFFB2.

I've tried the G940, and I don't like it at all......technical problems aside.

I still have it around here somewhere. Perhaps I should sell it because I don't see myself using it at all any more.

Also have the T16000m, used it before I got the Sidewinder. It's a good stick: lots of buttons, precise (HALL-sensors), and cheap. Downsides are: heavy spring (some poeple might like it), and lousy button action (buttons are mounted too loose, don't click nicely). I'd suggest this stick to anyone who can't get the MSFFB2 :).

No dont sell your G940, just send it to me so I can enjoy it, cos I cant find a MSFFB2 for love nor money.  Like I said I might as well have a broom stick for what I have :(

I'm a complete novice at this game so take my advice for what it is worth.  i looked into what kind of joystick to buy and after reading lots of reviews and counting the pennies in my piggy bank I decided the best bang for my buck was the Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X Flight Stick with detachable throttle.

I checked and see it is available for less than $50.00 (not much less but under $50).

There are reviews around, here is one with links to others:

As a new virtual pilot I found it very easy to set up and use, I like the ability to adjust the position of the throttle (limited by the length of the connecting cable but that's never been a problem).  It seems very study and feels good in my hands (size XL gloves).

You can see it off to the side in this shot of my PC set up.  I've placed it on a foam mat but that is not necessary but does eliminate any movement on the desk top in flight.

I'm still "in training" mode on the Cliffs of Dover edition.  I was amazed that the system would allow me to use both my Thrustmaster HOTAS with it's two controllers, plus my Logitech gamepad which I configured so that I can use the buttons to arm bombs, open bomb bay, drop bomb, and close bomb door.  Not sure I'll find that a good use of the second set of buttons that having two controllers allows, but I was pleased to see I could use both on the same game.  I'd like to get a gamers keyboard with more customize-able buttons, but that's another $100+ and I'm not sure which one I want to get yet.

Anyone recommend a gamer's keyboard for Flight SIMS?

IL2 supports up to four controllers so I am not surprised that CoD would as well...

CloD support more than four josyticks. Probable up to 16 - (Windows limit, limited to 8 axis, 32 buttons and HAT per device).

Absolutely.. and the kicker is.. I still have my original MSFFB stick... from 10 years ago.. there is not a spring on the market that can do as far as stick forces go.. I turn off the FFB.. I just use the stick forces.. but it would be nice to have a more diverse FFB selection.. I just hope it isn't implemented like it is in CoD.. the FFB in that sim is terrible. It would be nice to be able to select and adjust individual parts of the FFB...

You might have been better going with a X-51Pro .. or a TM 16000m ... Unless something has improved Logitech sticks are not very well made.. Their mice and keyboards are great.. but their joysticks are sub par.. in my opinion and from my experience with them..

I have a Thrustmaster T 16000m. The great thing about this stick is that you can configure it for left hand use, allowing me to use my mouse with my right hand to compensate for my lack of TrackIR.  I like the two-stage trigger too, it allows for a minimal reaction time without the risk of accidental shots.

My only gripe with it is that the thrust-slider is hard to use while flying. I use my mouse buttons for prop pitch and mixture.

I use a Logitech G940 joystick, throttle and pedals. never had any complains about this ensemble. It works fine with force feedback.

I know people have different preferences so this is just my take on it.

I use a Thrustmaster T 16000m. I currently combine it with a CH Throttle and Saitek Combat Rudder pedals. They all work well so long as I avoid the CH software.

I find the T 16000m comfortable in the hand and quite accurate and sturdy. Great value for money when I got mine a few years ago and it is still going strong. The simple slider for the throttle is adequate but not great. However it is easy enough in sims like CLoD to add in something like a CH Throttle to work with it.

Perhaps because it was so cheap I have on occasion looked elsewhere in the probably never ending search for the ultimate joystick. i have tried in turn the Saitek X52 Pro and CH Fighterstick. I didn't like either of those in comparison to the T16000m and sold them on. While travelling OS once I got a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I was not taken by it but it was very cheap. Years ago I had the early Microsoft Force Feedback which was a nice stick. This was the first Red Baron days if I recall correctly. I think I wore it out but it was fun to use.

Considering how good the T 16000m is wonder if the Thrustmaster Wartog might be worth considering but it is an expensive bit of kit. I am interested to read the comments about the MSFFB2. It sounds like Microsoft on occassion can make a darn good joystick or two. Pity they don't offer one at the moment.

I had the AV8R and switched to the 16000m. I use the 16000 with a separate Saitek throttle and find this a good setup.

I use a CH Fighterstick/Ch Pro Throtle/and Saitek peddles... luving it. I have not come up with a profile(IL2) for the stick and throttle (being a newbie to this setup) does anybody have a profile they might like to share... more or less to get me started, I can adjust to my taste later. That would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I was operating my Messerschmitt with Saitek X-45 and X-52 for almost a decade when I switched to Hotas Warthog this year and I'm actually pretty satisfied.
