Motherbrain Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 (edited) I want these planes so much. Its sad information is hard to acquire for them what with the translation and everything else. I've always been attracted to Japanese aircraft. Never really knew why. Maybe because I have "hipster" tendencies I tend to gravitate towards things that I think aren't popular or aren't widely known or acknowledged. But I think they're just attractive airplanes. I can't wait for a Pacific expansion. I wasn't sure where to post this since the Pacific Theater discussion section seems to have comments disabled and the General section seemed to be a place to discuss the sim in its current state I think. But still, what's your favorite Japanese plane? Mine is probably the B5N for some reason. No idea why. I just like the way it looks and I like the concept of a single engine level bomber. There you have it... that fact alone should tell you that you won't see any of your favourites for quite some time. Having said that, there is always a chance the dev's have closed that section down because they are thinking about another part of the pacific war and not Midway...
CountZero Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 But dont expect to see them in this game, but its fun hunting B-29s with them in good old Il-2 1946 1
6FG_Big_Al Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 I feel you man. I would love to see the pacifc expansion here. My favourite of all time is the A6m Zero. I slightly prefer the early versions more than the later ones. And the G4M2 Betty is a sweet bomber. Hopefully the dev´s go to this Area, but i have the feeling, that they won´t go with the next expansion to this spot. 1
=27=Davesteu Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 I sincerely hope the closure of the "Pacific Theatre Discussion and Assistance"-subforum does indicate a very welcomed shift in focus to the Asiatic part of the theatre and not a long-term postponement. There are too many intriguing Japanese aircraft to choose from and too many categories for me to elect one favourite, but the Ki-44 and Ki-51 tick many of the boxes. Both are nice looking, had colourful yet largely unknown service lives and they deviate from many other Japanese designs in their general conception. Japanese Army aircraft are slightly more interesting to me as they are unjustifiably overshadowed by Navy ones in public perception, but I'm really interested in all of them. 1

I'd love to see the Sonia. That would be amazing.

SovietAce Posted April 20, 2019 Posted April 20, 2019 (edited) Definitely hope to see those beauties: Also that Ki-100 is my most beloved and most desired ? Edited April 20, 2019 by SovietAce 3 1
Gambit21 Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 I want the Emily so badly...and I know that I'll never see it. 'sniff' 1
TheOldCrow Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 My favorite would definitely be the A5M, One of the first planes to ever use a flush rivet system. It laid the ground work for the A6M which is regarded as one of the best and most widely used Japanese fighter. 3
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 (edited) Torpedo and dive bombers are far more interesting to me than the fighters. Hence I'm adding the Aichi B7A2 Ryusei ('Grace') to the list. Also love the D3A2 Val and B5N 'Kate'. Edited April 22, 2019 by 6./ZG26_5tuka 2 3
-LUCKY-ThanksSkeletor Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 What is it that makes all of the Japanese aircraft just so good looking? 1

Same here, I know why, it is because I find them so beautiful. I find a Zero more beautiful than a spitfire or a mustang. My favorite is by far the D3A Val 1

To be brutally honest, it's probably because they are somewhat outdated designs. Fixed gear with wheel spats, razorback fuselages with framed canopies, cranked wings, bulging engine cowlings, etc. These can make for some attractive airplanes but are ultimately old fashioned compared to their western counterparts. Then you go to the other extreme and they also made a couple of designs that could be considered ahead of their time like the Magnificent Lightning.
Cybermat47 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 Japan also had some familiar-looking jet and rocket fighters in the prototype stage: 1

=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 So regarding seeing Japanese aircraft. During my trip to Japan in recent days, I've visited a couple museums, namely Yūshūkan Museum in Tokio, Aichi Museum of Flight in Nagoya, Kure Maritime Museum in Kure and Shiden Kai Museum in Ainan-no (Ehime). From those I think the best experience I;ve had in Kure Maritime and Shiden Kai Museums, while first one has incredible exposition including 1/10th scale IJN Yamato, the other is very quiet and located so far from civilization that rarely anybody visits it which makes it additional achievement. Shiden Kai museum is dedicated to killed in combat ace Kaneyoshi Muto, one can pick there a variety of souvenirs including locally brewed sake to commemorate fallen pilot. 5

=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Yes, I know. I actually was mistaken. The museum is dedicated not to one but six pilots: Cant name all of them unfortunately.
