Head settings solved

I recently started to learn the I-16. I notice I'm sitting below the gun sight and cannot see it to aim. I've tried and tried going through The Pilot Head and Camera settings and have been unable to solve the problem. Which commands control raising and lowering the pilot view through the sight? Any help appreciated.

Are you using the Home/End/Insert/Page UP/Delete/Page Down keys to adjust then the F10 key to memorize the position? Don't forget to pause TrackIR if applicable.

Turn off TrackIr (or its equivalent) and then use the PgUp & PgDn keys to move the pilots head up or down until it is where you want it.  If his head seems slightly turned or looking upwards of downwards then use the mouse to get it pointed where you want then press F10 and that will be your new default head position.    I think the Home, Del, Ins & End keys do sideways movement and forward & back movement if needed though usually when someone has accidentally messed up the default position they have not changed those settings.

As an alternative, you can go into "...\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\LuaScripts\snapviews" and delete "I16t24.svc' which is where the default head position is stored and it will get rebuilt correctly next time you run the game.

F10 to set a new default position does work with trackir enabled too, so if it's easier for you, just lift up a little, hit F10, sit comfortably again and then hit recenter.

I've used that exact method to centre my view in all the 109 and 190 variants, so I'm not sat with a permanent rightwards lean all the time.

Yes it should be said that most people who have messed up their default head position did it with TrackIR running.    If you look over your shoulder using TrackIr then accidentally press F10 while reaching for a different button then that will do it.   So yes if you did not mess it up badly then you might get away with just looking the other way until your virtual head is facing forward then pressing F10 again.

My thanks to you all, I've solved one problem. What still bothers me is that I can't move between the sight picture and the I-16's instrument panel. Fixed on the sight, I can't read speed, RPM. etc. It seem if I choose to use TrackIr, then I must choose one position or another. Is there a solution?

My thanks again to all of you.

I've not used that aircraft much, but if I remember rightly I had it set so I was slightly too low for the sight at rest; that way I could duck to either side for instruments or sit up straight for the gunsight, but it does just seem to be an artefact of an incredibly tight fitting cockpit for the most part.

Try the numpad decimal key(del) when in cockpit. In my controls its listed as snapview-custom but brings you to the  instrument panel view, perfect for the 16.

You can set any key (except Numpad 5) to be a custom view.   What you do is disable TrackIR then hold down the key you want to use and keep it held down while you adjust the pilots head to be where you want it then press F10 and release the chosen key.  In the case of the I16 instrument panel that means holding down your chosen key while you use PgDn to lower your pilots head then press F10 then release the key.

Pretty sure there is a default "view instruments" snap view key which works, already programmed for most (all)? And I-16

My thanks to you all for your help. What finally worked for me was using the up and down cursor keys for pilot head up and pilot head down respectively.
