I noticed whilst playing with the Lagg-3 that the plane really likes to stall and flat-spin. I can't turn-fight well in it or boom and zoom too well either. I tried keeping my speed above 400kph and that seemed to work but it looses energy very quickly. I play a lot of flight sims and I have never seen a plane, quite frankly this rubbish.

Could someone give me any tips on how to fly this plane

p.s. Does anyone know the release date of the FW 190 and the LA-5

The LaGG is inferior to the Bf 109 in most aspects, as it was historically, but it is far from being crap. I very rarely lose a fight against AI 109s anymore.

Some tips:

Never start a fight unless you have a solid energy advantage.

Never turn more than 180 degrees at a time.

Stay on top of the fight at all costs, don't let him drag you down.

It's better to miss a posible shot, than follow him in a tight maneuver and end up at a disadvantage.

Learn to aim well, your heavy armament can rip a 109 apart with a single tap in the trigger if you can make the shots count.

Fight at altitudes between 2-3000m if posible. You'll get the most out of the second gear on your supercharger.

The early series Lagg-3s were a bad plane with a rightfully poor reputation and the Luftwaffe gleefully shot them down in droves. As it has virtually no flight characteristic advantages you need to make them for yourself by doing things like Finkeren mentioned above. You'll need to fight the way a 109 does basically. Or the way the 109 should fight against decent opposition like the Spitfire - against the Lagg 109 drivers have more leeway to mix things up. You can practice against the 109 AI in the Lagg but that's a pretty poor opponent right now. If you come up against a competent 109 driver online the gap will be much more clearly exposed and if you haven't given yourself some significant advantages before the fight you're most likely dead and you'll be selecting the Yak-1 or La-5 (no release date for this yet) when respawning.

I imagine as a bomber killer the LaGG will come into its own later. It is certainly out of its depth for the moment.

Also keep in mind, that we're comparing one of the eras most problematic (yet ultimately succesful) fighter designs just over one year into its production run to one of the very best fighter designs of the period which was at the time 5 years into its production run.

Cheers for the tips guys. I knew the Lagg-3 was too heavy for its underpowered engine, I just wanted to know any tips.

LaGGs are going to need Yak-1 escorts, so will the Il-2, and probably the Pe-2, as well. The Bf-109 F-4 is a great fighter and cannot be appreciated enough or easily overestimated. He needs to be countered with our best available fighter. The Yak-1 may not be the equal of the Bf-109 F-4, but she is the best we have, so we have to learn her inside and out, develop excellent team tactics, and make the best of things. If the Yaks can keep the Bf-109s busy, the LaGGs can effectively deal with the Ju-87s and the He-111s.  :salute: MJ

Also don't forget one important aspect, which was part of reality, but which we propably won't see portrayed 100% accurately in BoS:

There would be 2 - 3 LaGGs or Yaks for every Bf 109.

By the start of Operation Uranus, which is when the BoS campaign opens up, Luftflotte 4 was down to just over 400 serviceable aircraft and were opposed by just short of 1200 VVS planes.

Try setting up an MP battle where the 109 jockeys are outnumbered 3 to 1 and watch how well they do. Of course that wouldn't be realistic either, because the Luftwaffe pilots would not enjoy the historical advantage in tactics and pilot training, but it would give you a better idea of how the situation actually was for the Luftwaffe on the Eastern Front..

Good idea Fink. To compensate for the German advantage mentioned have the ratio 2:1 for the Soviets.

There is much talk about reality so why not extend this reality to the number a/c.

2:1 is too lopsided for MP I think, given that the skill level of players on both sides will be about equal. 1.5:1 might be a good ratio though.

For the Second part of my question; does anyone know when The LA-5 or the FW190 may be released. Also, It it just me who can't take the siren on the JU-87 and when I try to take machine gun pods and load into a game it put me back to the main menu?

I don't think that there are any dates about rest of the planes coming, but if I remember correctly Yak-1, Pe-2 and 109 G-2 will be released before La-5 and Fw 190. I think He 111 was the last to be released.

Thanks, just cant wait for the FW109 and LA-5. Also how did you get the Golden IL2 badge under your name?

It's founders badge, those who bought BoS during the original pre-order program got them (or was it before certain date?) Gold if you bought premium and silver if standard.
