Freycinet Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 "Il-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover" has amazing graphics, but often the dogfights are over so fast that there's no time for the details to sink in. I tried to show those details in this movie, which is a bit different from my earlier stuff. I hope you like it. Comments and suggestions are very welcome! About some of the details: - The Spittie pilot chose to only load tracers in his two outer machine guns. Tracer bullets (and tracer cannon shells) are the only ones that show up graphically in CoD. This pretty well mimics real life, where you can't see machine gun bullets and cannon shells either. However, all the non-tracer bullets are modelled as well, and their effect is very obvious when you hit the target. Some pilots prefer not to load tracers at all, to hide from opponents that they are being shot at. - The cannon shells are set to explode on impact, but actually these shells also carried a small timer delay, so that they exploded anyway, after going a certain distance. This was so that the ground wouldn't be littered with un-exploded cannon shells. When I fire at the Spitfire at long range you can see that by the end of the burst my shells happen to be at the distance where they explode. That way they end up damaging the Spit, even though they don't hit him. A bit like Flak bursts. - The Spit completely ravaged my oil and water coolers with his first burst, but seemingly did not hit my engine. That's why my engine works well for another minute, before it seizes up due to overheating. What can I say, I love the damage modelling in CoD...
AA_Engadin Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Frey, one of your best vids, IMHO. Shooting within the first minute, I have just enjoyed it from the very beginning. Your expert shot even after being hardly hit made me shout for myself "Well done!" . Perfect. Congrats mate. AA_Engadin
Freycinet Posted January 25, 2013 Author Posted January 25, 2013 Thanks! - It was indeed a super-satisfying kill.... :-)
Freycinet Posted January 27, 2013 Author Posted January 27, 2013 Wowsers, hitting 1300 views two days after posting... :-D BTW, bonus brownie points to whoever can identify the 109 skin!
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Wowsers, hitting 1300 views two days after posting... :-D And well deserved too! That was beautifully put together, amazing what you got out of an on-line sorti!
Freycinet Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 I get that sort of footage all the time. CoD online is really like taking part in a WWII movie... Yesterday we were sitting two Blenheims at the airfield, revving our engines, when the triple-A opened up. A minute later we literally had wreckage of a Luftwaffe bomber RAINING down on us! So cool.
Caudron431 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Really like your videos, and especially the narration. I noticed that despite the hard fights depicted, they often do show compassion for the defeated pilots. They reminded me of an account by a WW2 pilot that stated that he himself felt closer to his defeated opponenent right after the fight, closer to him than to all the friendly people congratulating him for the kill, once back at the base. That said, of course i liked the good humour too!
Freycinet Posted February 16, 2013 Author Posted February 16, 2013 Thanks RegRag! I think thy probably hated their opponents more often than we hear in WWII, but I don't see why I should carry that attitude into a sim... 1
royraiden Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I have watched it twice.I really love your videos please keep them coming.I never got too motivated to play CLOD for more than a few minutes but I do love the damage model and videos like this one show that is is even more detailed than I ever thought it was.
