ShamrockOneFive Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 So even though I've been playing the IL-2: BoS beta for quite some time, my actual play time has been limited, and I've been getting myself accustomed to flying the aircraft and working on the controls. I probably spent too much time on controls because I've had to redo them all the time. Tonight with the latest update I did my usual which was check out the new plane and then fly a few laps around the airfield and try and land it. Stuka was fairly easy to fly so that was fun. Then I decided to jump into some combat for the first time. I went with the LaGG-3 intercept mission against the Ju87s with Bf109F-4 escort. Brilliant mission! We approached the target area and spotted the four Stukas getting ready to dive in so my flight and I went straight at them. Why two of my wingmen were targeted by the 109s I went for a Stuka and completely missed the first shot. I came around and found one of the other Stukas rolling into a dive. I lined up a shot and got several hits... engine began trailing smoke and he spiralled away. I checked my surroundings and next up were the two 109s which were still high up and duking it out with my fellow LaGGs. Came around on the two 109s and they flew straight at me with some tracers sweeping past me but no hits. I fired back in return but also got no hits. We did a couple of reverse turns around each other but I managed to get on one of the 109s tails and what appeared to be a single 23mm blew both elevators off. At this point we're getting down pretty low and the Stukas are strafing the target. I found another Stuka, lined him up, let loose a couple of poorly aimed bursts and then got a solid hit with the VYa... the 23mm round tore his wing off and he went straight in. The other aircraft were cleaned up by my wingmates and we returned to base. I lined up a great landing but I went a little too far off the field... lost my undercarriage and slid the rest of the way to a quick stop. That was fun! Couple of observations: - The visuals are STUNNING. The way the aircraft explode, the glint from the sun, everything is superb. - Still can't bind my two stage trigger (X-52) using the in-game controls. Do I need to use the X-52 profiler? I've never installed it in all these years. - The sound is incredibly immersive. - Still no trim on any aircraft correct? I find its hard to aim when the aircraft is bouncing up and down as I try and correct for speed. This is going to be amazing when its finished!
VR-DriftaholiC Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 (edited) For two stage trigger just click the first stage and hold it before you add the new input then click the 2nd stage when it asks. That's how I get machine guns on first indent and both on 2nd. Edited March 1, 2014 by driftaholic
Volkoff Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 (edited) Then I decided to jump into some combat for the first time. I went with the LaGG-3 intercept mission against the Ju87s with Bf109F-4 escort. Brilliant mission! I loved reading about your experience with the LaGG-3 escort mission This is the mission that I went on tonight. It was a super awesome fun time. My LaGG-3 bagged three Stukas, thanks to that powerful 23 mm cannon the team recommended taking, then I headed home, and made one of my super bouncy, bouncy, bouncy landings. I even made a video off of the track of the escort mission, because I had so much fun. MJ https://vimeo.com/87913654 Edited March 1, 2014 by =69.GIAP=MIKHA
ShamrockOneFive Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Thanks drift... I'll give that a shot! Great video Mikha!
Volkoff Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 (edited) Great video Mikha! Thanks! The 23 mm cannon is pretty effective, huh? I'm also thinking about trying that mission again tomorrow, this time with rockets. MJ Edited March 1, 2014 by =69.GIAP=MIKHA
