ladlon Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 Can't seem to find any reference/tutorials to fighter planes doing bombing (and not too much on ground strafing). Plenty of bombers doing level boming, and dive bombing using the Stukka... but nothing much on (say) 109 bombing... aside from quite a few on skip bombing ships. I seem to have an almost 'magic trick' talent for firing tons of bullets at a ground target, and when the smoke clears, everything around the target is decimated... except the target! (Maybe I should try and MISS? You know, reverse psychology kind of thing?....) As for bombing, I seem to recall something about 'when the target goes under the nose'... or is it 'under the gunsight'?... So, that's why I'm trying to find a reference to that. I did finally find one vid where it described only dropping the bomb when the target is the (horizontal) size of the first two markings(?) in the gunsight... and that you aim the gunsight just above(?) the target... Again, I don't really recall, so I'd love to find some official tutorial on that. Can anyone point me to one? Video or text... all good, as long as I hit things!
SCG_Tzigy Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 Have u checked Requiem's tutorials? https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwV5RLX7mkaDy5gTIiuwGmg Also this and this: 1
ladlon Posted April 6, 2019 Author Posted April 6, 2019 (edited) Hi, SCG_Tzigy. Ya, I grabbed that a while back (looks good), although it seems it's an advanced 'tips/techniques' manual... more to refine your skills. But, maybe it's complete enough to serve as a beginner's guide, as well. Edited April 6, 2019 by ladlon
Plurp Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 For 109 specific training: Quick mission builder: Pick 109 of choice with bomb load of choice: Add all ground targets (tanks, ships, etc...but no AA) Choose bomb aiming help in realism settings. This can be turned on/off in game once chosen (control I may or not be default) Pick alt to spawn in at: With this quick setup you will have static af targets, tanks, ships, art etc. Practice bombing from different alt and speeds and dive angles and you will see pretty quickly where and when to drop the bombs with and without the helper on. (it's not always perfect) I use this as a quick refresher when changing planes/bomb load outs to get a feel in the gunsight of when to drop.
ladlon Posted April 6, 2019 Author Posted April 6, 2019 Yep, I was actually doing that for a little while. I suppose I should continue on with that. Perfectly valid method, actually... Just kind of wanted 'official rules', so to speak... just in case my interpretation of the practice results might be inaccurate. I need to also start using the record feature, so I can rewatch the bombing from an external view, and see what exactly is going on, too.

After bomb drop, pause, switch to external and watch as you pullout. You can also slow down time right after you unpause. If bomb is 250 kg or less, switch to 1 sec bomb fuse and go after the moving tanks for added fun.
ladlon Posted April 6, 2019 Author Posted April 6, 2019 I keep forgetting about the slo-mo feature! Ya, I really have to pay attention to the whole fuse thing... Previously kind of (wrongfully) ignored it. Same with gun convergence. Laziness and resistance to newer concepts.... ?
Sublime Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 Pm me and I can end you a ground attackers manual made by community members. It was priceless for me and useful for even just flying Il2. Its ovet 100 pages. Covers everything. Opposution opinions on all the bomber types as targets. Everything. Its like chucks guide but over 100 pages and focussed on ground attack. Id recommend dl'ing chucks guide and theres another BoX plane guide that has planes chucks guide doesnt cover. Both guides (chucks dcs guixes are way better) really just tell you plane operating limits and where stuff is in the pit.still has proven priceless for me to open on my phone in flight or when starting a new career to get a quick review. Iused to use slo mo all the time in Il2 46 and before back then. Especially fighting enemy planes. Never again. Its like labels on in DCS. Helpful but teaches bad habits. IMO better to learn snap shooting and other stuff. For example strafing. Most people (me included) do not fly far enoufh away before the next pass. They also dive to soon or start to low. A good strafing pass youll be lined up in advamce and have plenty of room to shallow dive and not jave to desperatwlypull up at the last minute. If im strafing and I find myself doing insane pullouts almost hitting the ground I step back and restart or leave and review in my head what went wrong. Strafing like that gets you hit, causes all kinds of accidents and crashes, and is inaccurate. You want a shallow strafing dive and a pull out a few hundred feet above at least not 20 or 30 feet lol. That sudden flare up pull out you see most newer players do is a death knell. It can cause a spin or stall. Youre dead. It slows you down and exposes your plane in the biggest target profile to ground attackers and if youre being pursued forget it. My unsolicited advice Oh. And a20s. Im shocked at how kick ass a20s are 1
