Horna Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 Greetings. My beloved cat decided to eat my T16000m cable and I'd like to try replacing the cable before getting a new one. My question is, what kind of USB cable I need?
Sokol1 Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 (edited) An easy option is get a USB cable with one A connector suitable length (~3m+) - e.g. a cable for printer that is A-B, and have a good shield with ferrule rings, then cut off the B connector solder wires following original colors in part of (original) cable that are soldered inside stick. Example: https://oypla.com/home-electrical/electrical-accessories/3m-usb-cable-printer-lead-a-to-b-male-high-speed-2-0 After solder, put a zip-tie in the portion of cable inside of stick case, for block cable inside, for avoid that if cable is pulled snap off of solder points. In principle any USB cable with A connector is suitable, e.g. reuse from a keyboard, mouse, but cable for print are easy to find and have a more "bullet proof" construction. I think I can snatch some old cables from my work. One more question, is this part needed? I have no idea what's that for?
Sokol1 Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 This is called "ferrite bead", used for suppress noise in USB cable. Examples of devices with this ring, VKB Gladiator stick, Microsoft keyboard and mouse, the mentioned printer cables. So if If you buy a new cable, it is a good idea to get one it with this ring. But if you have a cable without this ring, I think can use without problems. 1
