It´s been some years now and all we have is either HE or AP. Loss of control surfaces etc. is something that rarely happens when shooting MG in game. However this is what the MG was built for (as is demonstrated by the entire loss of the tail section in the short film). There will not be a realistic DM until there is a seperate MG damage system. Mauf Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 As great as it would be to have the M-Geschoss with a proper model, likely not going to happen. It would prob. require a complete additional damage model for each plane just for that ammotype. Not to mention the whole modelling logic to be built to have proper blast damage calculation. Time that they don't have I would guess.
Beazil Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 What makes you think it isn't modeled? I was under the impression that the different ammo types were modeled in game. Why do you think it's not?

Why do you think it's not? There was a dev statement long time ago that Mineshells are modelled as what amounts to "very fraggy frag grenades". As I understand the description is that they "emulate" the actual blastwave the Mineshell would have had with a big burst of projectiles that blast away from the explosion site of the Mineshell. An actually quite clever approach as it probably is closer to the real thing than what other sims did in the past. Problem seems to be the interaction with the DM as sometimes hits do not seem quite as oomphy as one would expect. I would guess it greatly hinges on some RNG of how many projectiles are spawned and what direction they fly off (also prob the reason we sometimes see engine damage from Mineshell hits on the wings). A proper modelling would simulate a blastwave and the compartment that explosion happens in. Afaik BoX does not model that in any shape or form. The current modelling I assume was chosen as a shortcut. Basically Mineshells can piggy-back on the general projectile modelling and saves alot of work on many fronts. Downside is that it is inaccurate (sometimes in advantage and often at disadvantage to the Mineshell). 1
