NZTyphoon Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) Here is the technical order attempting to fix the inner gear door deployment when hydraulic pressure is lost. P51Dwingfailure3.jpg A T/O which applied to 800 P-51D-5NAs built at Inglewood (44-13253 to 44-14052) and 200 D-10NAs (44-14053 - 44-14252)... In other words all P-51Ds built from the D-10NAs, and all Dallas built P-51Ds had mechanical locks fitted at the factory: that means 5,600 D-NAs plus 1,600 D-NTs = 7,200 Ds had mechanical locks fitted, while the remainder of the early D-5s to D-10s had mechanical locks retrofitted. Kurfurst Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Very interesting Crumpp, thank you. Frankly I am a bit surprise that P-51Ds did not have a mechanical lock to start with, it seems to be an overlook, given the plane was in service for about two years, the possible fatal consequences to the plane and aircraft, given any hickup or damage to the hydraulic system... Apart from these cca. 1000 D models effected, I suppose the older, but still operational B/C models did not have a mechanical lock, either.. were they retrofitted, too?
Sternjaeger Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 are you STILL SERIOUSLY trying to show you're right by twisting things?! 1) First of all, can you READ your own language?! It says "Decrease the possibility". 2) That's a handful of P-51s that didn't come with that specific feature. 3) That feature has NOTHING to do with what you were asserting i.e. first that the doors had no locks, then they did but they were hydraulic and connected to the same system of the landing gear, and you tried to demonstrate this by posting pics and videos of mustangs with their doors down, which means that not only you don't understand how the system works, but you also don't understand basic aircraft safety systems logic (so much for an alleged aircraft mechanic!). 4) If you just want to keep on embarrassing yourself, knock yourself out, but STOP SPREADING MISLEADING INFORMATION! He won't see this because he probably blocked me, so would someone have the courtesy of quoting me, so he can read this? Thanks. Unbelievable!!
