RedKestrel Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Hello all, What software do people use to make video recordings of their tracks or their missions? Any pros or con? Free would be nice but if you use purchased software give that a review as well. I'm thinking of recording some missions for my own reference, and in order to preserve them between updates I would need to put them in video form...

For the easiest and most immediate solution- if you have Windows 10 you can just press Windows key and G whilst in-game to bring up the option to record your on-screen footage, after which it will be saved as a video file in your windows documents. Of course there are much more specialist methods, but this is at least a free and immediately accessible method. This is here below is a brief example of the Windows recording function. JimTM Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I have OBS Studio, which is free and open source. I've only played around with it so far and I like it but here's a couple of reviews: https://www.pcworld.com/article/3314721/obs-studio-review.html https://www.techradar.com/reviews/obs-studio 1 2

I have a NVidia card, and NVidia Experience (or whatever they call their little application thing) is on my machine. I've basically ignored all the NVidia stuff on my machine as everything is working well and I'm operating on "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!". I'll look into this to see how it matches up with the other stuff, thanks.
=FEW=fernando11 Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 The nice thing about NVidia shadow play, is that it should be free to yo, it doesn´t seem to take a big hit on performance, and you can have it set up so you can record X minutes back, for example, you have the "app" runnin, something interesting hapens, you press A KEY and it saves the last X minutes... I have is set at 1:30, so if anyting interesting happens while on MP, I can choose to save it AFTER IT HAPPENED. Ofcourse you can use it as a regular recoding software, and select when to start, and when to stop. you also have diferent setings for audio and video quality. 1 1

The 'After it happened' thing is great because often something crazy happens and I think "man I wish I recorded that".

For recording a previously saved track you can use that, or any other software, but for saving what just happened I think it is ideal. Just look arround on the setings, you can select a longer or shorter "saving" time and again, the quality makes a big diference in file size.

My monitor isn't super great and my rig is mid-range, so I probably won't need to have too high of quality for my purposes anyway.
=FEW=fernando11 Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 A good starting ponit is usign your standard resolution (FullHD for me) and arround 30-35 Mbps (Megabites per second), this should give same or even grater than youtube video cuality. if the files are too big in size go lower, if they don´t look nice enough, go higer. 1
