Tycoon Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Do those of you who use 4k screens find an improvement in spotting planes over a 1080 screen? Also I heard someone mention something about low res screens making pixels stick out, not sure. thx
TWC_Ace Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 (edited) I never trieed but generally, yes, the bigger the monitor is and the lower the res is - the easier would be to spot dots on the sky. BUT, on example, I wouldnt go for 27" and 1080p monitor just for that. I prefer to have a nice resolution and image quality over slightly more visible enemies. TBH I was thinking on switching from 24" 1200p monitor to 27" 1440p monitor but then I would have smaller dot pitch and Im not sure how visible would be enemies in the distance. Maybe someone who has such monitor would answer. I was looking for 1400p 32" screen also but I have one at my work and it is indeed too big for "desktop style" gaming (I tried). Wolfs Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 I play currently on a Illyama 27" monitor with 1080p resolution and i have to say that the game still looks nice. I however wouldn't buy a larger screen with just 1080p resolution since the upgrade from my 24" monitor to my 27" did make the game look slightly worse.
SharpeXB Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 4K is very nice. This sim doesn’t use dots or sprites that appear larger on bigger pixels. The extra resolution is great for identifying. Plus the map looks really gorgeous in high resolution. I recently upgraded my monitor and another feature to pay attention to is contrast ratio. Most of what you pick up on is contrast. 4K displays also are available in HDR, all TVs are too. Although this sim doesn’t support HDR it looks really good on such a screen anyways and games which do support HDR look really amazing. The expanded range of color and contrast is quite incredible. Something to consider in a new display. If IL-2 does end up supporting HDR that would be the best thing the game could do towards visibility issues. 1
TWC_Ace Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 (edited) Thanks Sharpe. Im considering to migrate from 1200p 24" (60hz IPS) to 1440p 27" (75Hz IPS). I was concerned about spotting planes at higher resolution. Edited April 4, 2019 by =VARP=Tvrdi
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 3440x1440 @34" is fine for spotting. It would be much better I think if game would support HDR.
