Danziger Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 I have lived in Poland for a year now. I brought my American socks with me. Now I am buying new socks here in Poland. I go to Carrefour and look for socks and I have to find socks in my size! Seriously! It's not like the US where you just go grab some socks because they are all size 13 made to fit 8ft tall NBA players but labelet "Fits size 6-13". I don't know how many times I have put my size 13 American socks on my size 10 feet with the heel of the sock almost on my calf. I just thought that this was the way I was going to have to live. They make socks in different sizes here! It is so freaking amazing! Finally I can wear socks comfortably the way they were meant to be worn! Not only do they have elastic around the top, they have it around the middle of the foot to keep the sock fitting snug all the time! How is it that a former communist country has socks to fit different size feet but in America I have to go to my local communist sock retailer and be pleased to vare muchly loved people's sock from glorious factory of people's sock... 5 1
THERION Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 You see, finally Good Old Europe isn't that bad at all and yes, we are still competitive and up to date... and apparently a leading industry in socks...

Does this mean comfy feet for the upcoming potato planting season?
Finkeren Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 Never underestimate the power of socialist footwear. As a child growing up in 1980s Denmark, I was extremely picky about my shoes, and my parents had to travel to the DDR (East Germany) all the time to buy shoes and sandals for me, because they were the only ones who both fit me properly and were soft enough.

I obviously have my national stereotypes all wrong. People from Denmark where everything is healthy and perfectly engineered bought their shoes from the Eastern Bloc where everything was utilitarian and barely adequate? ?

Well, ok, these do not look sexy or elegant, but at least they look some kind of sporty... But, what really is an absolute no-go and proves a serious lack of some decent elegance and style, are those blokes wearing brown corduroy trousers, multi-colour hand-knitted wool socks and those famous orthopaedic sandals called "Birkenstock".

Tztz, you're a bit limited in your reception of the fashion-world. The elements you describe above are core elements of the "Eco-Style". Nowadays that's a well established fashion style of it's own right and tradition. Combining elements of Central Europe Folk Fashion with influences from the academic scene of (natural) scientists it still is an important civil code. It's brain that matters. 1
unreasonable Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 Be careful of European socks: you may find them easy to put on, but getting out of them is much harder! 2
