190 A5 U17 Boost time limit?

How long is one meant to be able to use the Injection at 1.65 ATA on the Strike modified A5?

The notes say it is good for 10 minutes, they also state that at full throttle on normal A5 at ATA 1.42 you have 3 minutes usage.  It feels like the engine blows on boost at the 1.42 ATA 3 minute limit.

Need to clarify as flying this bird low against Yaks is bloody frustrating when the only way to keep speed up is to close the cowl shutters and push the engine which then either promptly cooks itself or blows cause you hit that magical 3 minute mark.

Anyway - my 190 career is on hold.

For the following reasons

- No Escort on strike missions

- No understanding of the Boost system and limitations on engine

- All missions are Strike missions

- flights usually get wiped out when ever VVS shows up

- Flying 190 career makes one suicidal ?

Time to return to my La 5 Stalingrad Career or maybe my Moscow P40 career.  My 109 Stalingrad Career is going ok.  Just wish the Kuban 190 A5 career was not so depressing.  Enjoyed my Stalingrad Career in the A3

The Jabo career is a bit repetitive. I have already gone through an entire country of replacement pilots, and I'm just about around halfway thgrough.

The boost only works when used as such.

Hit the boost-key and go 100% throttle (or vice versa - doesn't matter).

1.65 ata will last for 10 minutes, given you'll use a wise radiator-setting.

I usually keep mine at 25-30%. That setting will enable you to outrun anything down-low.

Keep in mind the system is only supposed to work up to 1500m or so. Best use it below 1000m.

Your fuel-flow will go up roughly 10%, so plan your fuel accordingly.

Enemy airplanes will sometime chase you accross the map, which is BS, as they clearly have negative closure rate on you, but a dinner at ole Joe's house probably keeps some of the AI Red Falcons motivated to singlehandedly chase you into the Atlantic...

Take a break every once in a while and come back to the Jabo campaign.

Once you figure out that flying other than direct routes, and higher than supposed by the mission plan, you can stay out of most trouble. I usually go IL-2 hunting after dropping the bombs, or I'm looking for easy prey in the pattern of some soviet airfield...

Maybe next time I will go as commander so I can lead the flight.  Yaks usually get bored with me side stepping them and fly home.  Mainly after they have expended their ammo.  I also must consider saying f it to my flight when presented with crap odds.  Trying to stick it out and save their sorry asses leads to much frustration.

A already give up all my ingame careers. In their current state, they become frustrating, steril and repetive over the time. (Hope this may changed one day)

Just pointing out that the U17 version of the 190A and the FW-190 F3 are the same plane, so strike missions you should be seeing. It is after all, a ground attack aircraft.

Correct, and the one Fw 190 A-5 unit on the Kuban map that is playable is a ground attack unit. There are occasional intercept missions, but they are very few and far between.

F3?  Is that the Ground attack version of the A3?

Thought the U17 was the ground attack version of the A5

Might have to delve into PWCG again for the A5 and Kuban.  That and practice my head on attacks as it seems the best defence is a strong head to head offense.  Just wasn't sure about how to manage the boost.  I was turning it on and off and going into emergency power but then throttling back to combat which might have caused my engine blow quickly.  Temps were ok.  Will try just turning on boost as I enter into combat with VVS and leaving it on but riding the throttle instead.

Oh and for VR, Virtual Desktop might be the go for PWCG so one doesn't have to take the headset on and off to cycle through missions.

The U17 was the attack version of the A-5. The designation was later changed to Fw 190F-3.

F-2 was an earlier attack version of the A-5. The F-1 was based on the A-4.

There never was a special designated ground-attack version of the A-3 - just a couple of quick conversions to carry bombs.
