What hardware controllers can you use in TC?

Without Joy2 key or any other 3rd part software.

Can you use your rudder pedals? Throttle? Joystick?

What do you guys use to control the tanks?

I play in VR so keyboard is not an option.

I use the throttle of the HOTAS for forward/reverse/brake and most of the key assignments. Rudder pedal for steering. And mouse for turret control, zooming, and switching between positions.

All key functions can be assigned directly in-game. I guess it’s a different story if you want to assign turret control to the stick.

Keyboard to get around  + mouse for gunnery.

I`m currently having huge problems using the tank commander`s turret visor. It seems to be moving at the same time I move my virtual head, staying to my right at all times. So when I panview to the left, it rotates left but remains to be out of my eyesight. I think it`s a case of me clearly missing somethin here.

Interesting.  So they still have not implemented using joystick for turret control?

I play in VR as well, but I've remapped everything to an Xbox One controller using JoyToKey. Set up took about ten minutes. I left the default keybindings for tank controls and just mapped the Xbox buttons to the appropriate places from the TC defaults. This works pretty well for me, personally. The Xbox controller is familiar and easy to use in VR without being able to see it. It's also wireless, so I can stand up and spin around (useful in the commander position).

Having the right stick mapped to mouse movement gives a decent amount of control over the turret/guns (works for main gun or machine guns) but it still a little wonky because of how you move the cursor and the turret follows. It would be much better if we could have direct control over the turret.

The main downside right now is that you pretty much always have to use the tank sight for aiming, you can't really lean forward onto the sight and get a good idea of where the shell is going to go. I guess that's just a limitation of VR.

*edit*

For what it's worth, JoyToKey is free and is relatively straightforward to set up. It seems intimidating at first because there are a bunch of options and buttons just labeled numerically, but if you press the button (on the stick, controller, whatever) then it highlights in JoyToKey so you can tell which one it is. Then you just double click it and map it to a keyboard button (or up to 4 together) or a mouse action, etc.

There were the same arguments back and forth in the Steel Beast ProPE forum. Get there it might be helpful.

I tried to use my flight setup (HOTAS and rudders) but quickly gave up on that and VR to settle for mouse and keyboard on the flat screen. I'll wait for the final product to try VR again. It just doesn't work right now.

One must bear in mind that the base game is a flight simulator. Joysticks were the norm. Mouse control for aiming machine guns. This was carried over with the addition of the Great Battles modules.

It is hoped that this tank control situation may be corrected in the future. :coffee:

I'm using an old Saitek P990 for driving and fire buttons. I use the mouse for rotation of the turret and aiming the cannon. I'd like an all in one solution in the future.

I certainly hope so.  The tank DLC looks interesting but I'm not really into using my mouse for tank controls.  I'll wait and see how this pans out.

Although more clunky, I use my throttle forward/back, traversing side to side, reloading of ammunition as well as camera zoom. So my left hand does much of the leg work for operating the tank. I have the thrustermaster twcs throttle so I still have more room for button assignment. However I wanted to keep those controls in uniform with my plane action thus muscle memory retention. As for adjusting the distance retical of tank optics or opening the cupola I use keyboard commands. (I may adjust that) Then for aiming of the turret I use the mouse with adjustable sensitivity.

I also have the pedals set up for traversing the tank if I like. Though I find it nice to just sit crossed legged in my chair so I rarely use the pedals when tanking. I'm entirely used to the clunky tank controls from playing the Arma series for over a decade. So this setup does not bother me and in a way it is a little realistic in the clunkiness of operating a real tank itself.  I do like the idea of using a controller for tank controls and that would streamline much of the setup and I may look into that in the future.

I use a Thrustmaster FCS HOTAS with Joy2Key to allow aiming with the joystick and driving with the paddles on the throttle. This feels more realistic, although it make things slightly more challenging.

I just re-loaded Steel Beast Pro PE. A great tank simulation. Rather high learning curve. :coffee:

I started with my T.16000M Space sim duo controllers and switched to my Logitech G13 now with the mini joystick for tank movement

and I use all the keys closest to the joystick for commands.I also use an axis on my CH throttle quadrant for precise controlling of tank speeds

forward and reverse..

That's a nice piece of gaming equipment. :good:

Has anyone tried a 3Dconnexion SpacePilot or SpaceMouse? It could be perfect if it works with TC.

Hi everyone,
For my part I use the TWCS Throttle for T.C. and it's great.
Config hyper simple for a pleasant grip and a very precise steering. All the keys concentrated on the same device gives an immediate reactivity and a total control of T.C.
I am really satisfied and I highly recommend it.
Only happiness
