I'm wondering if they're considering releasing a few more 1918 planes such as the Pflaz D.XII, Fokker D.VIII, Nieuport 28 and Hanriot HD.1 as collector planes before doing a proper Volume 2 (with earlier planes and a new map, I assume).

You know, I hadn't actually gotten that far in my thinking but I suspect there's a strong possibility there. It seems like they have a groove going now and that makes additional types all the more possible.

I'd love a DXII, top of my FC2 wish list as it is.

(well, close call with the puppy).

Bréguet 14 ?

I would like one too, as well as more two-seaters

I've entertained the notion of a FC.V2 fleshing out the 1918 planeset, and possibly adding one or two new aircraft in to round out 1918 (as there isn't enough specifically 1918 aircraft left from the original planeset left for a full 5v5 lineup as with V.1, so perhaps this an opportunity to finally see the SS.DIV and Sopwith Snipe that were so long wondered about) but now that Shamrock suggests the remaining 1918 aircraft as collector planes before a V.2, I think that is more likely. Researching and designing new aircraft is probably an expense they probably don't want to take for the moment while there are still aircraft left to port, though I think it could be a good additional draw to entice people over who haven't made the jump yet; Show that FC isn't just an incomplete re-hash of ROF as many see it to be and aren't willing to put out money for.

I've got news for you all, we are already half way to that "50 people on MP servers with Flying Circus.  On Sunday (3-24) we had a pretty steady 2 dozen people on the J-5 server in a fighter only furball on the Kuban map.  It was a blast!  Once we get a proper map and a few 2 seaters  I expect more and more people will be giving FC their love.

Ps:  This is so much more than a graphic refresh of RoF.  Doesn't everyone realize that all the physics improvements in the general flight engine apply to FC?  These add up to the planes feeling much different than they do in RoF.

Absolutely agree on this, love the feel of the aircraft in the new engine, but unfortunately it seems to be a common refrain of people who haven't gotten good info on the product or tried it out for themselves.

Might be a good business move if there was any way to make a "free to try" available with a limited plane set.

Yeah I saw that after numbers dropped in the RoF Vintage Mission and wanted like hell to join and see that. But, work called :(

Bring it on the Tripehound (pre-2014 of course, as it should) and the Nieuports (Albatri D2, Halb D2). Bloody April. Then we can have a fight! Fokker D.VIII would also be awesome.

Yesterday the fun started early. I got home at 20:00 GMT and saw 25 players, and I jumped right in. And it stayed that way for more three hours with lots of players rotating. And we don't even have the SE5a and the DVa. So far it is looking good (the D7F is also looking good).

Did I mention Nieuports!

I would love to fly a Nieuport in this sim after seeing how the Dr1 turned out to be more manageable.

Such people are like brick-walls with a PA speaker.

That has honestly been on my mind too. Or perhaps we would see the Breguet and DFW to give more flavor to the 2-seater side of life?

Well to be fair, the company has said, they are not redoing the flight models which could lead you to believe that the planes are going to behave exactly like they did in RoF.  They don't.  And that is because the engine has gotten better and does a better job of modeling how planes move through air.

On one hand I applaud them for not making over the top claims (note clever Great War reference) but on the other, I think they are giving themselves a bit of a short sell.

The SSW DIII,

Yep I'd love to see the SSW in both D.III and D.IV versions as well.

Jagdgeschwader Nr.II were so impressed with getting them. The following is an ode they wrote in appreciations of the SSW D.III.

'Ten little Siemens were circling around a barn,

A piston ring froze up tight, nine were left without harm,

Nine little Siemens were playing out to join the hunt,

The spark plugs flew away from one, eight are left to hunt,

Eight little Siemens, they flew up very high,

A piston when out fast, now only seven are all right.

Seven little Siemens were flying on top of a spot,

The magneto didn't turn on one, only six are left on lot.

From six little Siemens out one with red socks,

Connecting rod salad right away, only five came back to box.

Five little Siemens we still have left to fly,

A throttle valve failed, but four still take to sky.

Four little Siemens were flying high and free,

A cylinder turned blue, we now only have three.

Three little Siemens are going very fast,

The bearings blow out quickly, only two who pass the test.

Two little Siemens, flying lonely like father and son,

An engine seizes completely tight, and now there's only one.

One little Siemens went up in brave salute,

He came up only 3000m and now too is kaput!'

This was a translation by Rick Duiven and based on the 10 little Indians song.

Berthold rightly annoyed that the arrival of such a promising aircraft resulted in an entire sqn being taken out of the flying rotation was still positive in response to high command on the capability of the aircraft.  The engines lunched themselves within 7 to 10 hours of use due to the substitute castor oil Voltol and also had overheating issues. On the plus side he recognised that this aircraft was certainly the future and with corrective measures taken on the engines and real castor oil rather than the Voltol would be the best aircraft in German service. But the Sh III engine was not up  to standard and the aircraft including D.IV ended up even with the required changes used in self Defence sqns in Germany.

Even so if the game is further developed with new aircraft the Roland VIa/b, SSW D.III/D.IV and of course the mighty Sopwith Snipe would be welcome additions - is it likely to happen frankly I doubt it but hey we can still wish.

Bring on further development once we have the full compliment of aircraft we have currently in RoF ported over to FC.

Took the Camel and Dolphin for a spin yesterday for the first time on JG5 server - handling feels very different to me almost passively sluggish. I'm sure though that it will just take time to adjust. Had a great fight against a D.VII and Dr.1 until I popped my engine (need to learn engine management again). A further 1 v 1 against a Dr.1 also proved a blast.

Regards Shot.

He is!

Can usually catch him every Sunday on VM in ROF.

G'day Game,

Were you in the D.VII and Dr.1 fight or the lone Dr.1

You were all very slippery, nice flying either way.

Regards Shot.

I was in the DVII when (frankly), the DR1 came in to save my arse.

I kinda thought it was you... well fought!

I think another Camel turned up and saved mine then. I tried landing on that beach but actually disappeared and sank into the sand with water bubbling all around me.

I couldn't get any advantage to be honest but got off some deflection shots of which I had no idea if they were effective at all. I think it will take a while to get used to the different feel of the aircraft.

Regards Shot

What better DEMO than ROF with its 2 free planes?

Yeah, that island is a swamp. I haven't quite figured out where you can land on it without sinking. Haha

You can try the ground between the group of buildings in the middle, and the southern aa gun, I've managed to land there :fly:

Will omit VR experience and improved flight physics of newer game engine. Two of the biggest selling points.

Used to fly with J5 for a while under a different name. Chunko was the dude I most regularly trained and flew with.

Good times. :salute:
