Wouldn't you know it.  On the day we get a great update, my TrackIR goes crazy!  The left green light flashes constantly and the when you open the app the camera strobes red.

Anyone have a camera they dont want and would sell for cheap?

Thanks!

Happened to me last year. Was a 2011 model I guess - it was offered to me in 2013.

I contacted the manufacturer, and a technician offered assistance through internet, mainly by exchanging emails and sending me a "low level" executable made to test the output of the system and check what might be wrong.

In the end it turned out to be something requiring sending it for repair, which would cost a "little fortune" I was not willing to spend... Actually I completely forgot about it, because specially in IL-2 and in servers that allow F8 ( ? ) I'm more than fine with the mouse and collie hat ?

Second the EdTracker recommendation. You have a little less functionality but its about a third the cost where I am, no cameras, no problems with backlighting. With OpenTrack you can do a lot of tweaking and interesting tricks to make it more functional.

If you do have trouble with it, their support is very good about trying to find a solution.

Worth looking into at least.

Well, I set up my actual roll for "lean over nose" and "lean over my back/check 6". Also pitch curves can be tuned so the actual up and down (pitc) tracking also applies (more or less, as you pleas) some "over the nose" or "duck into the instruments" view. And the tracking is super smooth, no problems at extreme angles as I had with TiR5. NO problems with backlighting which is nice. All  that for the third of the TiR price. But I would recommend wired version since drifting is hardly to appear. I attached my usb cable to the cable of my headphones. But I know some ppl like wireless.

I stopped using TrackIr even though it still worked as designed and switched to using EDtracker with Opentrack because it was more responsive (TrackIr works great 90% of the time but often struggles with large fast head movements such as you do in a scissors fight)   To be honest though,   If I was doing it again I would think seriously about getting the UTC-II device.

It is actually just a replacement for the TrackClip Pro but by all accounts it is far more responsive, as in 'It will *never* lose tracking whatever you do.  The makers claim your neck will break before tracking is lost ?  It will also work with any other camera based system eg TrackHat.      Having to 'fake' the 5th & 6th DoF you lose by going to EDtracker is not ideal but worth it in order to get the perfect tracking you cannot get from TrackIr.   Having TrackIr with perfect tracking is the ideal solution.

I can recommend Edtracker pro also. I've been using it for a month now. I switched from Tir5 and I would say it's as good as Tir.

My trackir is collecting dust at the moment but I'm going to keep it as backup.

I have wired too. I have a wireless adaptor plugged into a USB port for my Internet and figured wired was better than risking interference. And I do the same thing with the wire, its attached to my headset wire so that its the same length, so I notice no difference, except a bit of weight on the one side where the cord comes down. Not really noticeable IMO.

I have head roll set to lean, and I tie pitch to head up/down a little bit so that I can look down at the instruments better (especially I-16). I plan to update my settings a bit more, I know I can get more out of it with some tweaks, but most days when I can take a chance to sit down and play I just want to jump into the game.

as someone who uses trackHat I can recommend their clip (tho not sure if comatible with TrackIR software/hardware) it is 3d printed and rugged as hell... Dropped it a fair amount of time, it is constantly plugged in (not advised tho) and nothing went south with it in the past 3 years of me owning it :)

I have my TrackIR 5 working well 90% of the time. Sometimes it loses tracking if I turn my head too much off the boresight of the camera, which makes hard to check instruments on planes like I-16 without having to trade off for vertical (up) range. Does Edtracker Pro mitigates this issue? It supports 6DoF as well? I went to their website but the products are unavailable. :(

EDTracker only has 4DoF but by teaming it with Opentrack you can get the functionality back.   I never used 'leaning' in TrackIr as I did not like the effect so now I tell Opentrack that every time I lean my head right I want to move my view right (while still looking forward of course).  Opentrack will also switch the direction your head moves when you look over your shoulder because,if you think about it, when you look over your right shoulder you tilt your head left.  With Opentrack that is converted into leaning out to the right of the plane as you look back.
For the 'up & down' axis that allows you to look over your nose or duck down to see the instruments beter, I just set Opentrack so  that when I tilt my head back a few degrees to look down my nose (on my face)  it also raises my head up a bit to show me a view over my aircrafts nose.   When I look down it lowers my head position which is great for things like the I16 where the top of the instrument panel is hard to see. If you want you can also add in a forward movement so looking down not only  lowers your viewpoint  but also moves you closer to the instruments to read them better.

Interesting, as I use the leaning forward function to get closer to the gunsight when I'm about to get a firing solution. I do this coupled with a key on the joystick hat to zoom in a little more. Maybe I could miss this feature if I switch to EDTracker or I could rely only on the zoom in (if enough) key when needed to get closer to the gunsight?

Definitely looking down to read better the instruments would be a nice one, as currently with TIR it is a little harder to do without losing track if you look down too much or move my head around too fast to the sides/up as in a dogfight. I've been calibrating via profiler several times but I'm still not 100% satisfied, there's always something to finetune.

Anyway, EDTracker is not available on its official website. Anyone who are in the knows can shed a light as to whether they'll replenish their product?

Hmm. I always used the zoom function to use the gunsight even when I was using TrackIr.      Leaning forward can only move you a little closer and sometimes it is nice to fill the whole view with your gunsight in long shots.

I got mine last month from here https://edtrackerpro.mybigcommerce.com

If you're looking for the DIY set then I don't know

I see what you mean. I calibrated my TIR to scale on Z-axis to get more movement ingame so it would feel more natural leaning forward to get closer to the gunsight. If I purchase EDTracker I'll have to switch that for the zoom in button, right?

Thank you. I was looking for the non-DIY version indeed.

Same here. Even when I had TiR5 I was using instant snap views for zoom on gunsight. I have "three stages" of fixed zoom for gunsight.

I need to set this up. This can all be done in game right?

Yep.

Pilot head: zoom in (gunsight view)

Pilot head: zoom out (max zoom yout view)

Pilot head: reset zoom ("middle point" towards the gunsight)

Under Camera settings (not under key commands menu) movement speed to 100% and inertion to 0%. Also I needed to set default zoom (reset zoom) view before I changed camera movement speed to max. A bit of fiddling but works flawlesly.

But I think there is a better set of commands for that AFAIK.
