blitze Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 Long Story short - Whilst trying to rectify a control spike on my RHS Toe Brake (where by the brake was fully depressed when in normal position but then with a little pressure went back to low end of range of actuation to full at full depressed and was making taxiing with toe brake planes a PITA) I thought that with the 2017 collaboration of VirPil and BAUR - there would be some software support in the latest VirPil Control Panel Software that would help my situation so I downloaded it and in inadvertently flashed their Firmware which has now rendered my Pedals useless. Would anyone have a copy of the BRD-Rudder V3 formware floating around that they could pm me or link me to so I cna reflash them and get them back up and running? Be greatly appreciated. I have scoured the Avia Sim Forums but not finding the firmware there. Firmware that is compatible with BRD vpc 15-01-2018 controller software. Also, why wouldn't there be update compatability with the more recent VirPil Controller Software?? Thanks.
BP_Lizard Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 I have the 2017 version. I think that was the V2 firmware. I can email it to you if you would like to try.
blitze Posted March 17, 2019 Author Posted March 17, 2019 I tried that and I think I bricked the thing. Nothing showing up now days ? Looking at the BRD Rudder Master Controller board there is a reset listed on the PCB. I might take the board out and have a closer look.

If your pedal was defined in Windows Games Controller as BRD-Rudder V3 he came with VPC controller installed. When using BRD controller is defined as BRD-RudderMaster. 2018+ BRD Pedals came with VPC electronics, so can use by VPC Configurator for calibration. BRD RudderMaster controller use ATMEGA32u4 m/c. VPC controller use ATMEGA90USB646 m/c. "Father" of VPC electronics (Mega_MOZG) MMJoy2 firmware is compatible with both m/c, but this don't means that VPC firmware is compatible with ATMEGA32u4. http://avia-sim.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=885 Instructions for install in this topic: http://avia-sim.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=885&p=30613#p30613 Google Translated: (Notice)...if your controller is defined as BRD-RudderMaster in the system , this update is already installed. Instructions for updating the firmware pedals. 1. Download the BRD_Rudder_2017 archive . 2. Run the old configurator. MUST PRESS "Read settings from device" !!! And only after that go to the section "Firmware Update". 3. Select the file - Firmware_brd.hexc from the downloaded BRD_Rudder_2017 archive and click "Run firmware update". Wait. The device is first defined as HID-Bootloader, and then BRD-reset. This means that the update was successful 4. Close the old configurator. 5. Turn off the USB and reconnect the new. 6. Launch a new configurator (the first time it will be possible to start a long time - wait). 7. In the list, select the device BRD-Reset. Suggestion: post your issue in RBD/Baur topic in Avia-sim.ru/forum - write in English (may using Spoiler tag), someone can help in restore firmware, the latest from BRD seems Baur_R20170529. http://avia-sim.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=885 Edited March 17, 2019 by Sokol1 1
blitze Posted March 17, 2019 Author Posted March 17, 2019 Thanks Soko, I give your suggestions a go. The controller board seems dead as it no longer registers on my USB Hub or system. I have tested the cable and that is fine. I also fired off an email to Baur and he has responded. I might have to check the toe brake sensor but also replace the Rudder Controller Board. Shall see.?
Edited March 18, 2019 by -=NT=-Baur
blitze Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 I can second that. Pedals are dead - no life on the usb hub. Most likely I bricked the Rudder Master USB board with my stupid flashing. Will have to replace it unless there is a way to reset it.
blitze Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 This is what I get with the setup software - nothing as the device is not seen by the software or OS anymore. I checked the wiring and the sensor on the Right Toe Brake and all was in place. No sign of cable degradation and the design is pretty bullet proof mechanically so no movement of the magnet in relation to the hall sensor for the toe brake. I am thinking I need a replacement Rudder Master Controller Board or maybe a way to reset the board.
Seb71 Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 Have you done the procedure involving shorting the two contacts marked "Boot" on the PCB? You did not mention it.

I'll await Baur's email to me with instructions on a board reset. Will let you guys know the outcome. Revisiting the pedals instead of just plonking my feet on them have made me come to realise what a great bit of kit they are. Solid design - just not me proof ?
Sokol1 Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 Take a flat screwdriver with suitable size an make contact in both "Boot" pads, this will reset the controller for bootloader mode, then can flash again - with BRD drives.

All done. Baur walked me through it and returning to his setup page I now have the pedals back up and running like Lazarus. The main thing is when calibrating them - to do the calibration in the 2018 version of VirPil Control Program and save the Device Profile which writes the calibration info back onto the Pedals Rudder Control Board. Not used to this when usually Windows itself is where calibrations are done and applied. Now I can lockout my twist grip again and dance on pedals when going in for the kill. ? 1
