Crash in career mode (automission start error / mission save error)

...ever since the last update. If it's a mission on which my pilot is not included, I click proceed and then get "Automission start error." and land back on the main page with the plane image and the mission type choices on the right. If I put my pilot on that mission and try to load it, I get a split-second "Mission save error" message, then the load screen with the left-to-right progress bar -- and then the game crashes (= disappears) -- the game launcher stays visible and will launch again if I click on play. I'm experiencing this in Kuban with a Bf109 G-4 career, in case that's relevant.

 

I started a Bf110 career and was able to fly two missions so far, and after the most recent update, the old Bf109 is still experiencing those erorors while I'm able to start a new Bf110 mission. So did the update-before-last somehow break that existing career?!

 

I don't see this issue in recent forum posts here, so I'm a bit baffled as to why this is happening on my machine. Running Win10 w/ a Nvidia GeForce GTX 960.
