Meeting with fighter protection when leading a flight

In career mode (Il2 Moscow), I got assigned squadron commander. Flying the 62th (IL2) squadron the entire time. Today I got promoted and became squadron commander. Until now I always had fighter escort at waypoint #2. Is it a coincidence, that on the first mission I'm leading (flown 50+ before), we got no fighter escort, but we still fly over Kubinka where we picked up fighters every single time. Is this a bug? Playing on full real if that matters at all.

Even as a squadron leader you can fly as a wingman, so maybe try this and see if it makes a difference?

Are you playing with air start or from the runway?

 

Maybe your escort is off on a holiday. 

Fly through it and see if this is a regular occurrence on your flights.  Also pay attention to your waypoint info if you are flying lead - be sure you are where you are meant to be and at the speed and height you are meant to be or you might leave your escort behind.  Unfortunately you have to be pedantic for AI to keep up - they don't seem to work well at covering each other and flights.  If you are with AI escort and are attacked, drag the attackers to the Escort whilst telling your flight to do like you.  Then you will have your flight drag over too and if your Escort then engages the attackers - resume your Ground Attack Mission.

After further testing, it looks like a coincidence. I've started new campaigns with various starting points and lead from start on and off and all were generating fighter escorts. So I suspect it's a coincidence that Kubinka (the airport where I got escort from, most of the time) probably ran out of fighters. I noticed, all the time some Mig3s were shot down, but it didn't have an impact since now. I didn't run enough missions yet to confirm if fighter escort will reappear. 2-3 mission after this happened and no escort yet.

I can confirm now that it was a coincidence, as I just had given a mission in the same career with fighter escort. Admins, please close the thread.
