HappyHaddock Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 Hi, Everyone knows about the issue with the jaggies and shimmering when other aircraft are viewed at certain times in front of clouds and I don't want to dredge up another repetitive discussion about that again as I don't think there's anything new that can be added to such discussions. This is about another issue observed in the standard game which I've been failing to get rid of with modding or changing a wide variety of parameters in the cloud settings. Don't get me wrong the basic clouds in game look good and with some fine tuning this game engine produces incredible results way in advance of anything seen elsewhere, so kudos to the programmer who designed this aspect of the game engine. It does however make the following both all the more niggling when I encounter it, and me all the more petty for mentioning it. There seems to be an inherent little flaw in the way the game engine handles a low incidence of light striking denser clouds when observing them from below and looking straight up to the apex of the skydome. As this is not a common situation to find yourself in most people may not have encountered this before, but it is there and occurs repeatedly every time this situation occurs. With more sparsely spread clouds there's not enough surface area of cloud for the shadows of these concentric rings to show as being rings, and if there's not a low angle of incident light the shadows aren't cast strongly in the first place... but when they do occur they just look plain wrong. I doubt this will be considered a priority to fix but if any of the devs are aware of what might be causing this and it can be addressed by a simple change to the game engine or perhaps a setting in the sky configuration files that regulate the look of the clouds I'd be really pleased to hear about it. Cheers HH 1
Danziger Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 This is a known issue for a couple of years. I'm not sure if they have the time or resource to dig into it. It could be on the very long list of niggles and nit-picks on the to-do list.
Uufflakke Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 (edited) The dev team is aware of it and I remember they want to know from members on what occasions it happens like weather conditions, settings, time of day etc. to tackle the issue. But it's searching for a needle in a haystack to find the related topic/comment. It happened to me also quite some time ago by the way. Edit: the needle was easier to find than expected. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/12255-graphics-models-and-maps/?page=9&tab=comments#comment-712900 Edited March 19, 2019 by Uufflakke 1
