=RS=GiantPLANK Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 (edited) Hi Guys, UPDATE 3 (March 13) Well, strange. I think I might have solved it OR it has mysteriously resolved itself. I played for about 1 hour 30 yesterday, and 1 hour today. During both sesisons I did not have a blackscreen event. I cannot be 100% sure this problem has gone away BUT I am now sure that the actions that solved the issue was: 1) MONITOR RESOLUTION. I down graded my 1440p g-sync to 1080 60 HZ. manually before plugging in the HMD. 2) USB power draw. Go to device manager, open up the USB controllers arrow, right click USB Root Hub (USB 3.0), click power management tab, uncheck box "allow pc to turn off device to save power", click ok/apply. UPDATE 2 (March 12) updated all drivers - no fix uninstalled and re-installed SteaVR and windows mixed reality for steam - no fix updated GTX drivers - no fix set monitor res down from 1440p to 1080p (seemed to help, but ultimately. no fix) changed power settings in steamVR to allow HMD to draw power all time. no fix! Im not sure where to go from here. I think maybe it is my system. i had task manager up and notice my CPU/GPU are spiking up to 90% load when the game is running. maybe the rig just maxes out sometimes and causes HMD to crash? it seems random though as crashes happen in 1v1 or near end of 8 v 8 battles after i have killed 4 enemy and thus game should be less busy!? will update further if i find another solution. UPDATE 1 (March 11) After addressing what I thought was the problem to the HMD screens cutting out (going black) mid game (see below for Original Post), the problem has re-occurred. Looking around the web, I have collated possible issues. So if you experience the same as me it might be one of the following: 1) Drivers - go to control panel, find WMR/hololens, make sure drivers are up to date 2) GPU drivers up to date 3) monitor resolution different from HMD, causing problems for GPU as both displayport and hdmi cable are both in use. my monitor is 1440p, HMD is 1024(?). one suggestion was to lower monitor res to match hmd. have yet to try 4) HDMI 2.0 needed for O+ HMD. I have GTX 970 Zotac, not sure if this is 2.0 or less 5) CPU or GPU maxes out during game play causing HMD to throw its toys out of the pram. option 1 - lower settings, option 2 - upgrade rig hope this helps. will update if i find a stable solution ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Got the O+ today and set it up in WMR, then WMR for Steam. went into game and after about 5 min as i was flying around suddenly the HMD went black. Green flashing light on HMD but the trackgin was still working as when i looked at the image on my desktop monitor i could see my head moving the in game camera! Turned off the pc, went for lunch, came back. started up again worked fine for a short 10min. stopped the game thought it was ok again. Came back to play again just now. got 5 min into game, was looking up at the belly of an he111, blackscreen again. same as before. everything on monitor OK, tracking works too, just not image in HMD. Any ideas on this problem? I have latest Geforce drivers. Window 10 up to date too. Edited March 13, 2019 by GiantCorn
=RS=GiantPLANK Posted March 9, 2019 Author Posted March 9, 2019 Think I have fixed the problem. FYI to anyone else who might have this problem; Problem seems to be to do with USB ports stopping power supply to save energy. this is default on apparently. to stop usb port going to sleep I followed this guide; https://www.hamoperator.com/Fusion/FusionFiles/K9EQ-Fusion-PDF-0023.pdf seems to have worked. played a 5-10min solo flight, then a 20min QMB and HMB didnt go blank.
JonRedcorn Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Yeah windows 10 is retarded, shuts down its own peripherals with usb power saving crap, this os was made for tablets and laptops not desktop pc's.

I submitted a review in this forum for low-level PC rigs that I hope encourages others to take the plunge cuz it aint that bad. If they do end up doind a PACIFIC/ FAR EAST campaign with VR it would be the icing on an already excellent cake. What a time to be alive!

=RS=GiantPLANK Posted March 11, 2019 Author Posted March 11, 2019 the problem has happened again. see my top post for update.
JonRedcorn Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Dang that sucks dude, I'll try and check into it later today when I get off work. 1
=RS=GiantPLANK Posted March 12, 2019 Author Posted March 12, 2019 update 2 above - still no long term solution.
Stolle Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Check this out:https://www.dsogaming.com/news/microsoft-confirms-that-windows-10-kb4482887-update-can-degrade-graphics-mouse-performance-in-certain-games/ to see if this might be causing your problem...it wouldn't be the first time a windows update broke something.
Panzerlang Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 No idea if it's related but I suddenly found the two games I was playing (Project Cars 2 in VR and then Thrones of Britannia) were minimising to the taskbar. It turned out to be an unsuccessful attempt to update the Gigabyte BIOS flashing software program had somehow messed with something in the BIOS, which I cleared just by going into the BIOS and then save & exiting. In VR it would make the screens go black (game dumped into the taskbar). Possible clue but a very long shot.

LOL, yes mate I have it in the USB 3 SS one. think i might have solved it now. see update above. 18 hours ago, No.85_Stolle said: Check this out:https://www.dsogaming.com/news/microsoft-confirms-that-windows-10-kb4482887-update-can-degrade-graphics-mouse-performance-in-certain-games/ to see if this might be causing your problem...it wouldn't be the first time a windows update broke something. weird. funnily enough yesterday my mouse was acting up! but it seemd to have resolved its problem by itself. Also in game suddenly all my inputs (joystick, throttle, rudders) went dead and i pancaked into the ground. Not a nice experience in VR! 15 hours ago, Uffz-Prien said: No idea if it's related but I suddenly found the two games I was playing (Project Cars 2 in VR and then Thrones of Britannia) were minimising to the taskbar. Almost like it has a mind of its own sometimes.
