JonRedcorn Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I am so sick of the constant updates to the windows program, over the past year we've been treated to substantial downgrades due to security issues I will never ever have to face. I'm so sick of it, steamvr updates, updates updates updates, 90% of the time they just cause more issues. Tired of it. You spend hours getting something working right and then an update comes along and destroys everything. 1
Thad Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I generally agree. We also usually experience problems with almost any IL2 game update that need to be dealt with too. I suppose such problems should be expected and are inevitable. ?
McDuff Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I've had updates disabled on a Windows 7 system for over 10 years and have run the old and new IL2 and ROF flawlessly...with the odd rig upgrade obviously. I know it won't last forever but I feel the Windows updates have more to do with them then us..Disabling has never had a negative effect on any game or piece of software I've ever installed ? 1
40plus Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I'm running a utility on Windows 10 called OOSU10.exe It allows me to shut down all updates and telemetry data collection. I typically turn it off once a year to get caught up on critical updates AFTER I've read that MS hasn't cocked anything up for a while.
69th_Panp Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 uninstall this update to get the performance back After installing KB4482887, users may notice graphics and mouse performance degradation with desktop gaming when playing certain games, such as Destiny 2. As a short-term resolution, users can uninstall KB4482887 to regain performance.

I Made a fresh re-install of win7 less than a year ago. Updates are disabled, and I manualy did most of the oldest and most important updates. I had 0 compatibility issues whatsoever. Well. Maybe not 0 issues. I can't use my Xbox one controller on wireless mode. But that is a know issue, deliberatedly by MS to push people to switch to win10.

-=[]=-little-Guardian Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 @JonRedcorn: I'm running VR on Windows 7 SP1 (x64) with the Oculus over SteamVR and Oculus-Home flawlessly since 1 1/2 years now. I also use VorpX for non-VR Games without any problems or restrictions. The only application so far that doesn't work on Windows 7 is "Virtual Desktop" . . . So, feel free to go back anytime . . . no more update horror ? (and no USB-ports shutting down or stuff like that) The little Guardian
dburne Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 In regards to Win 7 and Oculus, afaik the only thing that will not work on the Rift with Win 7 is the ASW tech, it reverts back to the older ATW method. Also some features in Oculus Home will not work on Win 7 for those that like to mess with it, like pull out Dash panels.
