Questions about Oden Mission Generator

I just installed the Olgen Mission Generator.  Just as with regular IL-2, I'm often puzzled by the orders spoken over the radio... never really sure if it's towards me or just some of the other AI pilots...  Never really sure what I am supposed to be doing.  I did a (Olgen) session just now, where we seemed to be vectored towards an enemy harbour (in 110s), but during the (long) flight over, enemy bombers and fighters were appearing, coming into our home coastline... and I was never sure if we were supposed to attack them or remain on course towards the harbour...  I figured that since I didn't receive a direct order to get them (and because our waypoint remained at the harbour), it was something for the other (AI) fighter squadrons to take care of...  but then I hear (...well, read) the all-too-familiar 'STAY WITH ME!!' type of message, and again, I never really know who is being spoken to.

All that said, half way to the harbour, I get another message (from an unknown pilot), saying 'I'm going home...', and I'm like... What?... What about the mission?'.  A little later, I checked the map, and the waypoint changed to our homeland.  So, I'm not entirely sure what all that was about.  Cancelled mission?  Protect the homeland?  I wasn't sure what was going on, unfortunately.

Also (with the Olgen generator), is it always going to be air to air, or are there bombing missions?

COMM sound is  always the same, regard if from original contend or add missions.

AI "chat"  - even player speak, is generated picking various individual phrases, and specially for numbers they are very low, difficult to understand.

Some recorded words, phrases, are broken - all with size less than 5 KB don't play, you can test then in

...\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz\parts\bob\speech\de and gb folders.

Playing sounds from this folder they are more loud than in game.

Back in "Bananas'forum" hay-days an guy try improve this sounds, discovery that will result a big task and due the declining interest on the game give up.

Olgen - better The Oden "Dynamic Mission" is for play as fighter in BoB, so you can't fly in bombers.

When I try this I find better became an "lone wolf", because try fly in formation as wingman with CloD AI is frustrating - they enter in "Afterburner mode" and start climb, then after struggle with your plane to climb too, when your are almost closing, they enter in "speedbrakes mode" and make you overshoot, rinse and repeat.

So use your "radio" (TAB ##) and request enemy contact to "Sector controller", following their directions you will find action.

I did a write-up about there:

Hello again!  Ya, the documentation for the Olgen generator actually mentions the 'afterburner' behavior, and says (at that point) you should just listen to the radio... but, ya, I'm always unsure whether I am supposed to attack any enemy mentioned, or if I follow the pack, or if I get specifically told which enemies to attack (as there seems to be a lot of other AI flying around, and they may be taking care of it).

No bombing, eh?... That's a real shame.  Even ground attacks would be good... just something other than always dogfighting.

I've been looking at BoS, since it's on sale right now on Steam... I still would rather stay with CloD, as I actually like it a lot (the look, the theater, etc).  All I need, is something to generate random missions (which include ground attacks, bombing, etc).  Not even needing a campaign or any carryover from mission to mission.  I'm probably going to grab BoS, although I'm really disappointed in a lot of aspects of it.  So restrictive, even in its video options!  (...and that's actually REALLY important, due to my old i7 CPU... I wish you could disable certain FPS killers, like the large smoke plumes, which I could totally live without.  I hate the use of rigid presets, as you often have to sacrifice stuff that is important to you in order to disable some of the stuff that isn't.  X-Plane 11 is the same.  I like how X-Plane 10 lets you enable/disable everything individually... so, I can completely lower water reflections (which I don't need), yet still keep all the other effects that I do want.

Ugh... I really do need to get a whole new computer....  but that means Win10... plus having to re-install everything again...  Not good at all.

Thanks for the link.  I'll check that out!

Ha!  I just checked out the link, and that was actually the documentation I was referencing in my previous post!  I didn't notice it was you.

Add TheEnlightenedFlorist Dynamic Campaign Generator in your CloD install - see topic in ATAG forum, then you can play as bomber with randomized missions.

When creating a new campaig assure that are selecting an Bomber Squadron, or fitters don't put bombs in your big twin engine, they consider then a "fighter". ?

Yep, that was one of the other ones I was told about.  I'll look into that one, too.

Hey, Sokol1...  When you say to be sure to select a bomber squadron, which squadrons ARE bomber squadrons?

I usually have to just go through them all, and check the available planes for each one, one at a time, until the He111 shows up in the plane list, as I'm not familiar with which squadrons had what.  I can read/speak German, but it doesn't really help with the squadron names for me.

Also, does this mod do 109 ground attack missions, too?  Or, is it just He111 bombing runs?

German Bomber Geschwader/Gruppe/Staffel assigned to bomb starting from high altitude are "KG" types.

German Stuka Geschwader/Gruppe/Staffel are "StG" types.

German Fighter-Bomber Geschwader/Gruppe/Staffel are "SG" types.  (Bf-109 assigned to Fighter-Bomber use this)

German specialist attack Geschwader/Gruppe/Staffel are "LG" types.  (Bf-110 assigned to ground attack use this.  Also Ju-88/Do-17 assigned to low level attack)

German Twin Engine Fighter Geschwader/Gruppe/Staffel are "ZG" types.  (Bf-110 assigned to Fighter role use this)

German Fighter Geschwader/Gruppe/Staffel are "JG" types.

Thanks for that, Buzzsaw... So, are you saying the G series 109s can carry bombs?  I just read (in the wiki for the REAL planes) that specifically the 109 G4 (which is the one in Kaban) doesn't have enough clearance underneath it (for some reason) to carry bombs.

I thought that bomb carrying planes (at least the German ones, maybe) had a B at the end of their name... or is that just a CloD thing?

Not sure what you are referring to... there are no 109G's in the current game and the 109G won't be released with TF 5.0.

Historically all the main 109 version's were given bomb/drop tank racks and set up to carry bombs... E/F/G/K.

Sorry, I got my wires crossed...  I was thinking of the 109G4 in Kuban (BoX), wondering if it was capable of carrying bombs in the sim, as it (apparently) can't in real life.

Bf 109 G types when are equipped with Rüstsätze - rack for bombs, receive a /R suffix, e.g. BF 109 G-2/R1.

You can bomb with then in IL-2:GB (BoS).

UPDATE: Just bought BoK (my first of the BoX series).  I was worried it might not perform well on my PC (old i7 2.6, but at least it has 12gigs of RAM and a GTX 1060 3G).  I was very pleasantly surprised to see that it's playing beautifully (smooth, seemingly even better than Blitz, which ran great, too), with the default (High) settings.  That's awesome!  I didn't touch any of the graphics settings.

Yay, I can put bombs on the 109!  It's like Christmas over here!

I got to set up the controls completely, and adjust some things... but that's for another day.  It's almost 2:30am here, and since it was nice enough to work, I'm going to be good and go to bed.  Got plenty of work to do tomorrow, but tomorrow night, I'm strapping on the flight helmet again...

I'm seriously considering grabbing one of the other modules, too.  Very happy with this so far.  Only thing I noticed was an odd white 'halftone' dots effect on parts of some of the trees.  Not sure what that was about.  Have to look into that.
