No planes, only a tank

Recommended Posts

I am completely new to IL-2 Sturmovik. Been busy setting it up for the Oculus Rift, done a few test flights. I am a proud owner of a couple of virtual WWI planes, or at least I thought I was. When I opened the game now it just shows a WWII Russian tank. No way to get my planes back. Apparently the game thinks I have Battle of Stalingrad instead of Flying Circus. Anyone else with a problem like this? Looks like my account was mixed up with somebody else's account. I have already contacted support, waiting for their reply.

I received 'Tank Crew' instead of FC initially too.

I expect they'll have this sorted for you quick smart.

I still get a tank, see attachment, which should not be possible because there are supposed to be no tanks in my account. When clicking on a tank icon in the quick mission map I get a tank, but clicking on a plane icon I get my planes back. I wonder if the map is OK, shouldn't we have the Arras map now? No good flying WWI planes in the battle of Stalingrad.

The map isn't out yet, just six planes.

If you click on Quick Mission you should see the six WW1 crates at the bottom of the lists.. ?

If not like I said I'd expect them to fix this quickly, as they did in my case.

I still seem to have access to a tank that I'm not sure I should have, if the devs see this maybe they need to cancel TC as I haven't paid for it !!

You have one Russian and one German tank, only, thats normal.

You can even drive them, they were introduce a couple of years ago.

Thanks Dutch2, I did not know I had tanks as well. Won't use them, though, too claustrophobic.

Something is still seriously wrong with my account or the program,  just like a couple of days ago I could not log in while I’m sure I was using the right password, and again I got the following message and another lock on my account for 15 minutes:

Hi Parmentier,
We have detected 3 failed log in attempts to your account from ************** (another town, information deleted by me)
If this wasn't you, someone else may be trying to access your account. These log in attempts were unsuccessful and we have blocked the IP address from further attempts so no action is required. You may however want to change your password for greater security, especially if you use the same password on other websites.
If this was you, you can safely ignore this email and you will be able to sign in again at 03/06/19 02:43 PM.

Of course I have contacted Support again. I'll report back,

07 or S (as seems to be the normal salute in this forum)

When it all works it is really amazing in VR. I crashed a lot of planes but I did land safely a couple of times. I still have problems to get the game started: a screen telling me "unresponsive .exe file, a full size Steam screen which I cannot get rid of without also losing Flying Circus, a cursor in my VR screen that I cannot move to the "ENTER" field to start the game up. Back to Support again.

I found out the screen resolution on the monitor should be set higher than 640 x 480, I had reduced it to try and increase performance on the VR screen.

In my case lowering below 1024 windowed did made the mouse freezes. But did you notice any improvement, because while running windowed 1920x1080 I did notice no chance in FPS.

The 2D monitor rez should have next to zero impact on the VR FPS. The GPU isn't calculating two lots of draws, it's just outputting them over two cables instead of one.

Obviously the monitor should be set to the same native rez as the VR headset.

Probably there is no relation, in the Rift FPS has always been 90 or only a bit below that. Present res in the monitor window 1024 works fine.

An entirely different issue: being an absolute noob I still have to learn almost everything. The problem I would like to solve first is how to take off. Pressing E did sometimes start up the engine, but apart from the propellers nothing moved. And now pressing E does not even start the engine anymore. I have no idea why. When using the Rift I cannot see the keyboard of course, so all commands have to be bound to my joystick (Thrustmaster T.16000M and TWCS Throttle) or to VoiceAttack macros. Is there a manual for this somewhere?  I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

Thanks a lot for sending me the link, would never have found it myself. I keep being confused, I know I purchased Flying Circus, but Battle of Stalingrad is the same game actually? Well if the manual also works for Flying Circus it is OK by me!

IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles is the name of the flightsim itself. Flying Circus is one of the modules, though it is only in Early Access at the moment.

The tank which you have available is, I believe, one of the two free tanks included with the purchase of any module.

As for flying these old birds, all you really need is a joystick with pitch (up-down), roll (left-right) and yaw (twist) control. Pedals are better but not necessary if you have a twist stick. A throttle, either on the joystick itself or separate, certainly helps. For some of the planes you will need to use a few additional commands, such as changing mixture and opening/closing radiators.

For now, I'd recommend you teach yourself how to fly the Pfalz D.IIIa, one of the more forgiving machines currently available.

You will crash a lot. That is okay. Experience is the best teacher.

Oh, and I almost forgot: Welcome! icon_e_salute.gif

Thanks Hellbender, I already know how to crash, the rest will take some more time. But even the crashing is fun!
