HagarTheHorrible Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 (edited) It's above the bar, Jason has said this a technical limitation due to the cross over between the sight and windscreen. Just out of curiosity, would the Dolphin, when fitted with an Aldis below the bar, look really odd if the windscreen was not present when the Aldis is fitted. If compromises have to be made would this potentially be an option or possibly better still, a windsreen frame, to give the illusion, but without the glazed panel ? 1CGS LukeFF Posted March 5, 2019 1CGS Posted March 5, 2019 They aren't going to change it at this point, so just accept it for what it is.
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Question about the Aldis in the Dolphin... How do you see through the thing? It's so high you can't use it.

You have to set the default view in the Dolphin so that your head is up above the wing. It actually makes it easier to see all around,(exception being down). Just make sure you have a button setup to "assume fetal position" when landing tho. If you nose over with your head up yer dead.
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Meh... I'll just use the standard sight. The game already has so many assignments that I'm running out of buttons, and I can't remember them all anyway. 1 2
J2_Trupobaw Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 The historical Aldis position was absolutely useless, just like in Tripe, Pup and Strutter. This compromise makes Aldis actually worth taking.

Settings / Pilot Head Controls / Save Pilot Head Snap Position. You only have to do this once for each plane so it's worth sussing out. Salute and good luck !
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) Every time I have tried it, using instructions given here, it just is a mess. So I then revert to defaults. Honestly is there not one way that is easy and actually works for that? It's always press one of the F keys to unlock it, then do a voodoo dance on the keyboard to move the view around, never quite getting it where you want, then hitting another key or combination of keys to save it, and have it not save, over and over again... There has to be an easier way. Edited March 6, 2019 by BlitzPig_EL
Zooropa_Fly Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 I use my head tracking to line up my center view, then activate the 'save pilot head snap position'. Sometimes takes a few goes to get it right, but this essentially works fine for me. (A head tracking dead zone comes in very handy here). Anyway if you're using keys to adjust your view, the 'sphsp' function should still become the default front view at the point you activate it, to the best of my knowlege. S!
BMA_West Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) @ ZF & BlitzPig For saving snapviews one is supposed to pause the Trackir first using its keybinding in the running Trackir profile. If it is the center forward view one wants changed one can now do it with the Inser/Home/PgUp//Delete/End/PgDn eventually together with your mouse – if that one is made available in FC settings. Once having the view where desired save it with F10 from FC settings. Next reativate Trackir and it will go to the saved view. Edited March 6, 2019 by West

Blitzen Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 So far with VR I've found it useless even after snap view centering.Ring & bead seems the only way to go at present.

I suppose, apart from formalities sake, the iron sight, in the context of the siming world (BoX/RoF), is just as accurate as the fancy high falutin scopes and reflector sights. After all when RoF first came out, several German aircraft didn't even have a central sight at all and that never stopped then shooting down loads of the opposition. I expect that we just pretend that sights like the Aldis etc are of any advanced benefit.

Come on dude, don't be dense. Sights like the Aldis are beneficial to those who use head-tracking and VR. If everyone was still using fixed snapviews, it'd be a different story. J2_Trupobaw Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Just make your default head position facing Aldis. It will also give you better field of view to the sides over the wings, too, as default default position (facing iron sights) lets you see mostly internal wing surfaces.
EAF19_Marsh Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I find it a little strange that they cannot put it below the bar but above the windshield.
