Bladderburst Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Just had to tell. I am having a blast, everything feels very nice. You did an amazing job and it is not even complete! The city feels really alive, I know it's just random ground explosions but you have the feeling of heavy fighting down there. 4
1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Yes, Its going to be a great game! I'm having a blast with it so far.
dburne Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 I have the new build installed, just not had time to give it a go - should have some time in the morning, looking forward to checking it out.
2Yards2Yards Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 THIS IS A FANTASTIC GAME...they have really done a wonderful job with this last update. EXCELLENT! Thanks to all!!
WindyCityZeke Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 This is nice, and keeps getting better each week. Just put on the FlightFX stuff and I can't believe how much better it looks, the screenshots do not tell the story well enough. Fun time today shooting down IL2's with those nice 20mm cannons on the 109s. This game is going to be a smash hit. 1
Wolfstriked Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 SweetFX is such a game changer that there should be a simple button in installer to setup and execute it.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Finally got round to trying the Il2 and LaGG. The former is a lot of fun, really enjoyed trying to attack the airfield although I've not made it back to base yet :D Best attempt was the last one where I managed to take out one of the flak guns (my plan was kill them first so we could destroy the ground targets at our leisure). Took one out with a bomb but then had my engine knocked out so I landed on the enemy runway :D Then tried the LaGG....Torque made me crash in to my wingman the first time, ground crashes feel great. The second time I spun in
Lusekofte Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Yes I like the IL2 and in some way the LAGG but 109 is kind of not realistic. I am looking forward to try out JU-87 . It is in my opinion not yet a complete sim, but it is fun. I wish for rubble in the streets of Stalingrad, the color is now very nice, the flak and its crew is very good modeled. All in all good impression. Hope for a good QMB and FMB, and realistic bomb aim on Lofte and PE-2 . If those are fair to realism I will really be happy
6./ZG26_Emil Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Yeh I'm really looking forward to the QMB and seeing some good missions and campaigns. Since we wont be getting a coop mode I'll probably be playing offline, at least the sim does AI well
smink1701 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 SweetFX is such a game changer that there should be a simple button in installer to setup and execute it. Yes yes yes yes PLEASE !!!!
senseispcc Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Words cannot describe the quality of this unfinished masterpiece of a game. The many details I find at each new flight I take in whichever plane I chose the Lagg-3, BF109 or the for me new IL2 it is the same feeling than some years ago when I first discovered the original IL2 game. Thank You All how create this more than a game a Simulation. see the details... 1
arjisme Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 SweetFX is such a game changer that there should be a simple button in installer to setup and execute it. You can get close to that if you install JSGME and then set up SweetFX as a mod that is managed/installed vi JSGME. I did this and it is a simple matter to enable/install SweetFX and disable/uninstall SweetFX with a simple button push in JSGME. If you are interested, here is my JSGMEMODS folder. It includes SweetFX, SweetFX configurator and SweetFX settings that MG-Catci4-6 posted at one time and is what I have been using. Each of these three items can be enabled/disabled independently using JSGME. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17779540/JSGMEMODS.7z 1

rlk281 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Indeed! Flying the 109 intercept mission, and seeing the impending airfield attack brought back very fond memories, and stirred the same excitement I felt back in '02! The wife is out with the girls tonight, and guess I'll just settle with being smitten with this week's release, along with a Guinness or two! Just had to tell. I am having a blast, everything feels very nice. You did an amazing job and it is not even complete! The city feels really alive, I know it's just random ground explosions but you have the feeling of heavy fighting down there.
crewchief Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 I would second everything that people are saying here. What a brilliant simulation! New installation worked fine and the general impression is stunning. I flew the 109 over to the Don, flew up the river and came back at low level. The most impressive thing is that you can see streams, ploughed fields and gullies under the snow. The clouds of smoke over Stalingrad look like the end of the world. Somewhat mucked up my approach to Gumrak, too low and slow, and piled in short of the runway in a spectacular spray of snow, but a good landing is one you can walk away from. When I was a kid flight simulation was an Airfix Spitfire in one hand and an ME 109 in the other and the sound effects were home produced. There are some great sims out there but BoS has the potential to top the lot. Thank you so much to the dedicated guys who are putting it together. One question - the plane set proposed seems a bit limited for the Stalingrad period. There should ideally be a number of German transports, Ju-52, Ju-290 and FW-200 to name the most obvious, that ought to be available. Flying a Tante Ju into Gumrak at low level in bad weather would be a challenging mission for anybody even the fighter jocks among the clientele but I realise that it is hardly feasible commercially to produce flyable models of some of these aircraft. Could they be considered as a package of non-flyables either to be escorted or interdicted? I don't think that the HE-111 is really representative of the aircraft used in the airlift. This is a small quibble however. I can see hours of fun ahead as the game develops and it is a privilege to be involved even in a very humble capacity. Final message to rlk281 - enjoy the Guinness. I am on Rioja myself tonight. Pip pip Crewchief 1
Wolfstriked Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Anyone notice improved explosiions when planes hit the ground?Looks different or I am becoming lovestruck and overlooking all BOS faults.
kendo Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Haven't noticed that. Am hoping that it is improved because currently I think is a little off - colour of explosion is too red.

I haven't used sweet FX in RoF because from what I had read it appeared to be a lot of buggerising around with settings. Will This folder work in both games without changing any settings?

ScotsmanFlyingscotsman Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Hi just adding my tuppence worth, Brilliant game, I'm flying the 109 on the intercept mission against thei il-2's and I take my hat off to the Pilots of the early Il-2's who's lives were short. Bit like our Fairey Battle pilots in France, But the Battle did not evolve... My shooting is rubbish, but I am getting some success, more smoke than kills . THANK YOU TO THE DEVELOPERS OK The 109 is still very 'bouncy' but I'm hamfisted with the enjoyment and I have yanked things a bit this weekend that have sent it into uncontrolled flight, and survived occasionally. I cheated and put the cannons on, "eine Kannoboot" but the results are spectacular almost instant ace. It's been great fun. I did have troubles with the install at the weekend and have mentioned that elsewhere, if you are stuck, uninstall re=install from the Profile menu of your own log in THANK YOU DEV'S Biiiiiii
senseispcc Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) I did notice something: The windsocket it is working! or am I making a mistake, a illusion? this is a picture at 10 m per sec Wind; the direction is correct also. And this is a picture of a other mission with the Wind at force 2.5 meters per second with once again the correct direction; Nice détails in a fantastic game. The only negative point is in the first picture the smoke should de blown in the same direction ?! Edited February 24, 2014 by senseispcc
T6-ADStukadriver Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Discussion about "FlightFX" and "SweetFX"... I hate to sound unaware, but what are these supposed to do? Are they independent programs that will modify the game for better video/graphic effects? Are they fairly easy to install without buggering up the game? And...I am wondering about Force Feedback...while my system tests on my joystick indicate that it is working fine, when I play the game, there are no taxiing effects, no machine gun effects and no real effect if I get hit. Is this something that they are working on to improve? These effects worked fine in ROF for me. And...I wholeheartedly agree with all the comments regarding this game so far...it is fun, the graphics are great...it is definitely setting the "bar" for flight simulations and visual beauty. Thanks to the developers. 1
senseispcc Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 More I look at the détails of the game the more I like it, the more I find it "nice"; If you look you can see that my canopy is covered with oïl and the oïl is leaking Under the engine justy behind the engine radiator. So many fine détails for a game. 2
Kudlius Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Finally I was able play game after some problems. Il 2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad feels like high quality game, similar to Rise of Flight. Gaming is really smooth. Plane control is demanding, like it should be in simulator. Graphics of the planes is fantastic, sounds are also good. Map is nice and feels like very good optimized. Maybe there are a lot to add, but even now it is FANTASTIC GAME Thank You Guys It is really worth to pay 95 $ for this piece of gaming art
touchdown42 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Hi, another nice detail is the modeled propwash(?). After the IL2 intercept i landed the 109 and taxied to the parking positions. Then i tried to maneuver the plan under the camo nets but clipped my right wing. After that i tried to pivot on the left gear with brakes and lots of throttle, watched it from 3rd person and when i pushed the throttle forward the broken wing was blown away! That was one of those 'What?!?' moments that make this game so brilliant ( and makes me overlook some other stuff ... ) Really good job devs, thx
ScotsmanFlyingscotsman Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Hi Gents, Totally agree with all the positive comments, well done the developers, its Sunday, My wife has passed me a couple of beers and my landings are getting worse. However, the sim is BRILLIANT. Just found the accurate flak problem, so tried the anti tank guns on the BMW trucks, Banged away at them, nailed one, came round for pass 2....NO AMMO YIKES, You mean
ScotsmanFlyingscotsman Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Sorry the flak got my keyboard there,... You mean they went all the way to Kursk, with 6 shots in the cannons...it can't be many more...I used to think giving me a mag of 20 rounds was tight and then when action came up 120 rounds...even tighter. Wow I though MOD were mean!
Sokol1 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I did notice something: The windsocket it is working! or am I making a mistake, a illusion? this is a picture at 10 m per sec Wind; That's fine, approximated values: Sokol1
Bladderburst Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 It could be. I have noticed wind in flight lately.

arjisme Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 How do I install this for this BOS? I have JSGME installed for DCS World, but I'm not sure what I need to do to install it for BOS. First, install JSGME in your BoS folder (you'll need a unique JSGME install for each game you want to use it with, so install it in the game folder). Then, extract the zip file I provided into your BoS folder. This will result in a new folder under your BoS folder, called JSGMEMODS and it will contain SweetFX, the configurator and the config file I mentioned. Then launch JSGME. The first time you launch it, it will prompt you to tell it what folder is your Mods folder, so just tell it the JSGMEMODS folder you created during the extract process. You are all set and can now use JSGME to select to enable/disable whatever mods you put in that JSGMEMODS folder. You only really need to enable just SweetFX and the settings file I included. The configurator is optional (I rarely use that). Note: if you are wanting to use FlightFX, the I would skip using JSGME as the method to enable/disable the settings in your game. I believe FlightFX does essentially the same thing and it would create confusion/problems if you used the two together (at least, from what I can tell). Also, I recommend you always disable/uninstall any mods you enabled with SweetFX before you update the game during these weekend alpha access periods. In other words, return the game to its original, clean state before updating the game. You can re-enable the mods after the update. That's the safest way to ensure your game gets properly updated when the devs release new code.
