ladlon Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I noticed that my mapping (O) for the canopy open/close toggle works fine while in the internal view, but doesn't appear to work while I'm in an external view... Should I chalk this one up as another 'CloD quirk'?
ladlon Posted March 2, 2019 Author Posted March 2, 2019 That's...... very weird... I can't even imagine why that would only work in one view. I mean, it's not like the model doesn't have an 'open' external version... CloD is one mysterious little fellow... (...Indifferent shrug...) Ah, well.. I'm happy. I finally have bombs on my planes now... plus, I just did a surprisingly good approach and landing of a He111. Smooth descent, and I FINALLY wasn't pulling back on the yoke (...used the trim properly, instead). That was seriously sexy. Doing stuff 'right' really does have its perks....
Team Fusion Buzzsaw Posted March 2, 2019 Team Fusion Posted March 2, 2019 Cliffs of Dover is not designed to be flown from external view... it is focused on simulating the experience of the pilot in the cockpit. This was the reason the cockpits had so much effort put into them. (they were far ahead of anything else when the game was released and still look very good) For that reason actions like opening the cockpit in external are not included. 1
ladlon Posted March 2, 2019 Author Posted March 2, 2019 I'm still not really sure why (from a coding standpoint) the keyboard commands would work any differently depending on the view. I'd imagine they are global. The gear animates externally, as do the flaps and even bombs... but not the canopy. I could understand if the (exterior) model itself didn't have an open canopy modelled, and so they would want to hide that fact by disabling the command while in external view. But the model DOES have an open canopy version, so it's puzzling to me why they would (seemingly) put extra code in to prevent it. The code to display the open vs closed canopy (based on the state created by the keypress while in the interior view) is obviously there, and the exterior does update every time you go to it.... So, I'm just puzzled by that. Another 'CloD quirk', I guess... Certainly not a deal breaker, by any means... Just... odd.
