taffy2jeffmorgan Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Hi, Is there a gyro gunsight tutorial for BoS or is there in the making. Cheers
JimTM Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 In his Spitfire IX video, Requiem indicated that he would make a video for the gyro sight, but I haven't seen it yet. Once it appears, it should be here.
Voyager Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 (edited) P-47N manual Look for the section on the K-14 gunsight. It also has a lot of explanation on how-to deflection shoot. Edited February 24, 2019 by Voyager
Jaegermeister Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 There are 2 versions. The Spitfire has the earlier British MkII gyro sight and the P47 has the K-14. There are some videos on the Tube for the MkII. The P47 N manual referenced above is your best bet for K-14. The only real difference is where the controls are, they work the same. Map keys for range and wingspan and you are good to go. I like to set the diameter for the enemy AC encountered, set the range to match gun convergence and fly until I get the right sight picture. Below 200 meters it doesn’t matter anyway. Look up wingspan for likely encountered enemy AC ie. German fighter - 33’, Stuka - 45’, Ju88- 59’, etc.
Talon_ Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 (edited) The best approach as was done IRL is to put the range control on an axis. If wingspan is set correctly then you wind the range until the target's wingspan hits the hexagon and pull the trigger. For the most part you'll be able to lead with some initial hits regardless of your convergence, but to make best use of this I recommend not below 320m which gives you a wingspan-width cone out to 640m. Reduce the range control as you close with the target to maintain perfect aim. Edited February 26, 2019 by Talon_
CIA_Yankee_ Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Personally I set the range to 200 (my convergence) and wingspan to the minimum (which is roughly the 109 wingspan), and focus more on using the gyro sight as a "funnel" rather than the precise point in which I open fire. In short, I use the moving sight as the marker of the axis along which I must place my target in relation to the fixed sight. Once I have my target lined up on that axis, I know I can fire a salvo along that axis and will very likely score hits (and I use target wingspan to determine if I should place my target above or below the moving sight along that axis). On the few times I've used the gyro sight, it's proven devastatingly effective (especially on the P-47, which allows for liberal use of ammunition, and carries a ridiculous amount of firepower).

We cannot feel gforces (manouvers + earth gforce) in simulation so it really helps to have an idea where your bullets will go.
