fiddlinjim Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Looks absolutely beautiful but the price is really 6,000 Euros not Dollars which is a bit of a stretch for most of us flight simmers, especially me.
Alonzo Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 It's also 995 euro mandatory support fee in the first year. Awesome tech, will be interesting to see if/when it filters down to the rest of us.
Dutch2 Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 And do not forget the extra €1000,- /yr for the extra support. ? FoV 87 degr. Think This is made for an very specific market.
Dagwoodyt Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Video is nice bit of fluff, but what hardware is required to run the headset is not described. 1

chiliwili69 Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 When the first Flat plasma TV appeared they cost a fortune, now LED flat TVs are incredibly cheap. The point is that they make a big step in resolution in the fixed center of the view (it runs t 60Hz in the hi-res panel). For certain applications (like watching a movie or work in a plane or make a surgery or for designers or professional training) it could be quite interesting. The cockpit comparison view with VivePro is awesome: there is more detailed info here: https://www.roadtovr.com/varjo-vr-1-retina-fixed-foveated-display-launch-release-date-price/
gravieldela Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I had the chance to try the headset recently, it is cracy crazy sharp, comparing it with the vive I would say it is like changing an old TV for a good HD monitor. They had a demo with an exhibition space, I could read the artwork tags from the end of a quite large room. Expensive, yes, outside my reach. But for professional use could be justified.
blitze Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 And requires just a paltry 8 x Nvidia Titans running in parallel to run it. I think I will pass for now but interesting to see and in Medical and Engineering industries - it would be very good. I think of VR helping in micro surgery or robotic aided surgery.
LLv44_Kanttori Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 (edited) Varjo Mixed Reality is coming to my "man cave" home after a couple years with my real world cockpit. I have a 240cm x 240cm x 240cm empty corner (where is now that unmade bed) behind my current home cockpit. It's now partially one upon the other with that becoming simpit corner. So the green screens don't need much more space when I turn my cockpit to a 45 degree angle toward the corner and green screens. This is the future of VR and it's already here! And most importantly: VARJO-technology comes from FINLAND, it has risen from NOKIA ashes like fenix! ? Edited August 16, 2020 by LLv44_Kanttori 3
