Have never been a fan of the airfields showing when they are under attack, but the latest change makes it worse.  Am not sure if I am missing something, but can this be changed in either ME, or game settings?

If we want to fly under full real, this should be able to be turned off.

But surely if an airfield within 5 minutes flight time was being attacked then you would be told.    I am not sure it fits in with 'full real' to be tootling around oblivious while a load of enemy aircraft are devastating a nearby airfield.

Trying to fly an online Campaign.  We are 123 km out from enemy location,  (rtb in grid 0730 kuban map) and all we have to do is look at the map to see enemy is  attacking one of our airfields. (grid 1929) Why do you think this is limited to 5 minutes flight time???   We have had the ability to place "spotters" on the map with limited range for a while now.   Second request...this really has to be made an option.  No way can we fly full real with this setting.

I never said it was restricted to 5 minutes flight, that was just an extreme example.  My point was that without airfield showing they are under attack then you could be as close as 5 minutes flight away and never know but in real life your controller would be screaming for you to head over and help or telling you to stay away because it is not safe.

Is it the fact that you are being notified at all that you don't like or the fact that the server designers are using a special 'Airfield Under Attack' icon instead of just the warnings most servers use to say your targets are being attacked eg 'Tanks in 1225 under attack'?  I can understand that but it is probably true to say that it is very unlikely that you would be allowed to take off or land without being warned that enemy aircraft are nearby. There would just be so many more spotters and gun emplacements around an airfield.   Tanks being attacked while travelling might take a little longer to get reported as there are likely to be fewer spotters nearby so it would rely on someone with a radio surviving the attack long enough to radio his HQ who would then have to contact fighter control then they would call the aircraft in flight nearby.

I just strongly feel it should be an option.  If someone wants to run a full real, no icons, no spectate server, then they should be able to check their map without seeing there are 3 enemy planes in the vicinity of an airfield 100km away.  Basically, it makes it impossible to run a full real server, unless of course there are no airfields on it......

OK. Fair enough. I agree there is no reason to tell us that an airfield 100km away being attacked though that is probably equally true about a tank column being attacked 100km away.

What we really need is a bit more localised comms.   I would really like it if we could 'tune in' to a particular sectors fighter control and not get spammed about everything across the map.  I would like it even more if we could 'tune in' to a particular airfield and get voice comms.  That way we could not only call finals or an emergency landing and have less chance of someone taxiing in front without looking but also we could announce our intended target when spawning and know that others spawning alongside can hear us and co-ordinate with us.  You can kind of do that with chat but it goes to everyone across the map and many don't read the chat anyway.

It should be an option, given we have WW1 now and they didn't have radios.

Yes, the airfield attack should be a server option or  an ME option. When you make an airfield an active entity you could select the option to turn off  the attack notification.

You'd have to rule out TS as well then..

No, just the game's airfield notifying an attack. That's a separate issue to players using comms in WW1. :)

So no help here?

No way to turn it of or reduce it to say 1 meter range?

I believe the server does this, it's not up to the map-makers. We didn't change anything to create this behavior, it was introduced in a patch. I think it's a 10km range.

no, it's pretty much unlimited in range.  My plane is parked 240km away from this base, yet I can still tell there is an enemy plane on it.

He means that the airfield detects enemy planes within 10 km range.
