Samsung Odyssey + accesory big improvement

Recommended Posts

Posted

I like the picture quality of the Odyssey plus, runs smooth with everything at Ultra settings, sweet spot much better than Vive pro, great colors and blacks too, only complaint was comfort and too much gap, loosing FOV.

Ordered this.

What a difference.

First comfort, very comfortable now, like my Rift.

You are closer to the lenses so more FOV

And the best, the sweet spot increased a lot by the eyes being closer to the lenses.

Highly recommended if you have some fitting problems.

I might not need the Pimax 5K after all. ?

Which between Vive and Odyssey is more forgiving on hardware?

Same, and with that said, I think the lower resolution VRs like Oculus are harder on hardware than the Vive Pro or Odyseey

Is it because one has to increase the supersampling in order to get better image? I have a first gen Vive and a GTX 980 gfx card. I get around 60-70 fps on High with some options  dialed down. I’m looking into getting an Odyssey.

What you said sounds promising.

Hey motoadve, since it's a bit of time now, what are your thoughts on O+ ?

Did you say sweet spot was much better than the Vive Pro before or after modding it with this stuff ? I read/heard it was the very bottleneck of the O+..

How much FOV would you say you achieve now thanks to this mod ?

Odyssey + best bang for the buck for sure.

Better than Vive pro  for starters sweet spot , and  for me even better resolution and colors and clarity for a third of the price.

Its a no brainer.

Without this mod was very uncomfortable, and you eyes were far from the lenses so the FOV felt smaller than the Rift and Vive Pro.

With the mod the FOV seems equal to those, sweet spot much bigger, and huge improvement in comfort.

I have the Pimax 5K on order but tempted to cancel the order thinking it wont be as nice.

Interesting,

Ordered the VR cover foam for Odyssey+ based on your recommendation. Hoping to get the same results. (Already very happy with the odyssey+ but if this makes it more comfortable and better FOV that's a big win)

You will get two different thickness velours, I used the thinner one.

But depends on your head shape.

Hope it works for you.

I did see some other reviews only talking about comfort and lesser light leakage, nothing on FOV or sweetspot. So if I remove the foam I would also should have an indication of changes in FOV and sweetspot.

It depends on the shape of your head, in my case the FOV was reduced because the lenses were too far from my eyes, was a lot worse than Rift or Vive Pro, now is the same as those, i imagine this is why I see a better sweet sport now too.

I have seen other people complain about this mod too, so I guess is not for everyone.

For me I needed something because comfort wise , it was terrible before.

I just pulled the trigger on an Ody+ so expect me to bug you owners for questions on how to set it up properly. ?

Coming from a Vive v.1, am I expecting a significant overall graphical improvement?

Think a Pimax5k was a better choice, or did you get it at the same BF €300,- price.

Pimax 5k+ is $700,- + avg $300,- for base stations and controllers if you shoot a bundle on craigslist or eBay. Odyssey+ is $500,- new.

Hence the Pimax 5k+ is double the price. The Odyssey+ has less FOV but *allegedly* a better screen right in front (same pixel density, no SDE). I am eager to test the Pimax 5k+ and hope that the assessment (that's not first hand experience!) is false and they are equal, with the FOV added as benefit and the controllers tracking behind your back too.

So it all depends.

But it remains, that Odyssey+ is a fantastic deal, and best bang for 500 bucks you can buy today and probably for a long time.

It's an even better deal at $299. Currently on sale $200 off.

I switched from Oculus CV1 to Odyssey+ and my life has been easier. No base stations/sensors or tray tool etc. I also picked up the comfy face pads. They do help vision a tad by allowing your eyes to be a little closer to the lens and keep the light out completely. I didn't know they were two sizes. I thought I just had a spare. lol

You do not need the base station so it is €500, vs €700, and if being from outside the USA put in an extra €50,- fee for service buro’s like Big Apple Buddy, because most O+ sellers will not ship it to outside the USA.

Only if the price of the O+ is reduced to the BF deal of  €300,- then yeah it would be worth it.

I ordered it for $300 new. I would love to try the Pimax, but it’ll necessitate me to upgrade my PC drastically. Right now, my Vive manages just fine at 1.6 supersampling. I figured that the change to Odyssey+ will not be too overly demanding.

To have 6DOF in Pimax you need the at least one VIVE base station. about $150 and P&P on that.

375,- thats a real deal, it did cost me nearly €500,- that is €100,- fee&shipping paid to Bigapplybudie & Fedex and the rest fxxxxxg 21% TAX. So the O+ at the regulair price will cost here a small fortune.

For €300,- you will not regret this buy.

Hey Motoadve,

Got my O+. Really thinking about getting that VR Cover.. I guess that you don't wear glasses though ?

I'm afraid I would need to go on contact lenses.. ?

I dont wear glasses, it comes with 2 different thicknesses.

I used the thin one, can sell  you the thick one for half the price if you want, will be cheaper than buying the whole thing.

This thing was supposed to be back in stock on the 15th, its the 20th almost and it's still out of stock.
