Voyager Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Was just thinking it might be an interesting mod to add a way to sync the time/weather of the quick mission map with a reading of the current time and weather conditions of the real one. Basically a psuedo randomization, but rationalized to what the area usually sees?
Gambit21 Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 The problems with this idea are multilayered. Not the least of which is that the game can't talk to weather databases, never-mind the limited weather presets even if it could. Then why do I want my 1943 weather set to what it’s doing right now?

I agree , they work with civilian sims, where you can fly the current weather, practice, IFR or just for fun. But in a WWII sim, dont see the value as much to set the current weather to a scenario in the 1940s But if what the OP means have more realistic weather, I am with you, it would be nice.

(More if you include the textures.) But I am all with you guys here as well, it would be nice having that. In Europe clouds are at least 50% of what makes up a scenery. On the other hand, it seems o me that the preferred way to play a combat sim on average seems to be with clear, almost atmosphereless setting. Not sure if the average combat simmer would be willing to pay for that.
NiiranenVR Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 I would like the wether to be as it was the day of the year 1939-45 If the AI planes also 'know' it's bad wether
Voyager Posted February 15, 2019 Author Posted February 15, 2019 The idea is only for the Quick Mission Builder, with the goal to have less predictable weather, while still being representative of the type and frequently of weather one would have seen. Syncing to the current weather is based on the assumption that regional climates are still largely similar, however, if historical weather databases exist, one could parse in those instead, and either randomly pull days, or have some sort of rolling sequence. Thinking about it, there's probably two separate mechanisms involved. One being a time of day selector that can pull the users current time and apply an offset, and a separate mechanism for generating a weather pattern, either based on some outside source or some database.
ZachariasX Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 You‘d need much more than that. You‘d need the atmosphere to be different across a whole map as well. Only once you have that, you can start to import actual weather data. Right now, you can only set the sky such that it mimics a certain look of a weather situation. Weather is more than clouds and „a wind from a certain direction“. It is also about the transparency of the air depending on humidity snd altitude. Turbulence is also a local occurrence, regardless of windspeed and dependent on these other factors as well as the scenery itself.
