Feathered_IV Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 So far I'm liking the way the devs have rendered Stalingrad's likeness. But one thing I noticed is all the buildings look like they were destroyed from the inside out. For all the area bombing, rockets and artillery that landed within the city, there does not seem to be any visible signs of impact. The streets are smooth under six inches of snow. The team at 1cGS/777 have done some incredible things. Some that few even thought were possible. With that in mind (and Friday looming again) I thought I'd ask, have the devs got any plans to represent shell craters and impacts to the heart of the battle area? 1
ParaB Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 There are already some craters, but I agree some more wouldn't hurt. Seeing the immense progress the devs have made with the Stalingrad map since the 1st release I'm confident we'll continue to see further improvements
Finkeren Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) Craters would be good, but most of all we need rubble. Heaps upon heaps of rubble. Other than that I think what we have now looks fairly close to the real thing: And of course to be historically accurate, the Mamayev Kurgan should look like this: But I understand, that this isn't compatible with our modern sensibilities (plus, it's just a flight sim) Edited February 20, 2014 by Finkeren
Feathered_IV Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 A hasty bit of photoshop. With some painted craters, then the original week 13 image below it. 3
I/JG27_Rollo Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Nice additon. The above picture looks quite a bit more believable of a battlefield. It's interesting to note, that there are also some craters in the original picture but they are very much covered with snow and rather hard to see.
Feathered_IV Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Yeah I know. They are pretty hard to spot.
DD_fruitbat Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I like the photoshopped craters you put in, looks good.
FlatSpinMan Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Wouldn't the reason be to allow AI vehicles to pass through the streets? We have no ground troops so there has to be vehicles to hunt, and for that there has to be roads. Dunno if that's true, its just my guess.
DD_fruitbat Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 If its part of the texture and 2d as in feathered's screen, shouldn't make any difference should it?
Potenz Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I'm quite sure that the map will be updated and reworked close to release, some things as building textures looks quite a placeholder right now.
JG4_Sputnik Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I wish you were right. But I doubt it. Also the woods could be a bit more diverse. Like very dense parts in the middle and kind of fade out at the borders. Some bushes here or there and some tree variants (fir trees?). Ritght now they look rather artificial for me. And of course some telegraph poles in the city And lots of rubble. Although I have to say that I'm very sensitive when it comes to "artificially" looking maps. The majority seems to like it how it is right now, so I don't have much hope. Maybe some modders could make the map look a bit more vivid and natural later on (and maybe I can help, since I have a bit of experiance but I don't know how the BoS SDK will work yet.)
