No IL2 launch for you! Help!

IL2: BoS was running fine until yesterday. Now when I launch it from within Steam or directly via C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\IL-2.exe, it hangs on the loading page. The red loading bar at the bottom advances to about 3/4 done, sometimes only to about 1/4 done. The game never completes loading. There is no cursor and no way for me to exit the loading page except CTRL+ALT+DEL and restarting my computer (when I try to open the Task Manager, it does not show).

I am running Windows 10 64-bit Version 10.0.17134 Build 17134; Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 3192 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s); 16GB RAM; and a GeForce GTX 1070 with 8MB GDDR5.

I purchased BoM yesterday, and the 3.010 update came out, so it could be either one of those. Or something completely different. I have tried unchecking the BoM DLC, but that does not help. I have verified the files. Any solutions? Thanks!

I've had exactly the same thing since the last patch. For me it helped to set the sound in the windows system control to the right source. In my case the sound runs over voicemeter banana because of bass shakers. As sound source I have to specify this software. Sometimes windows starts with a different default sound source (my x-fi soundcard).

First thing first, move your \Steam\aso folder out of the program files folder to anywhere on your HDD! The programs folder has nasty habits of hindering things to happen in there! It´s a M$ security thing to protect programs in there to get messed up and updating games is detected as messing up by Windows!

So after doing absolutely nothing, yesterday (Feb. 6) IL2 launched just fine for me through Steam.

But that, alas, was yesterday. Today, when I logged in to Steam that there was both a Steam update and an IL2 update. When I launched IL2 it loaded but I got an error message about a lost internet connection. I couldn't get past that, and when I quit the game and launched it again... yep: stuck on the loading page. So I'm guessing that game and/or Steam updates cause some sort of incompatibility. *sigh*

I'll wait another day or two to see if the problem self-corrects, after which I'll uninstall / reinstall IL2, and if that doesn't work I'll move my Steam folder outta Program Files (x86).

According to this Steam page, it's pretty simple... but nothing is ever that easy. ?

1. Exit the Steam client application.

2. Browse to the Steam installation folder for the Steam installation you would like to move (C:\Program Files\Steam by default).

3. Delete all of the files and folders except the SteamApps & Userdata folders and Steam.exe

4. Cut and paste the whole Steam folder to the new location, for example: D:\Games\Steam\

5. Launch Steam and log into your account.

Steam will briefly update and then you will be logged into your account. For installed games, verify your game cache files and you will be ready to play. All future game content will be downloaded to the new folder (D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\ in this example)

I am experiencing CTD. First time after 3.01 update. But I still got the game to work.

Now its a no-go. CTD's every time.

Blew away the Steam client, and let it re-initialize, but still CTD.

I'll give it some time to see if anybody else can come up with a real solution.

I wont fall for the reformat my hard drive, reinstall Windows 10, reinstall the game crap...sorry Pal.

After an adjustment on my end I got it working.

Thanks developers for a great game.

What "adjustment on your end"? Please describe so others might be helped!

Here's what 1CGS support sent me several days ago. I like the first option; it makes sense... but there is no updates folder anywhere in my Steam folder, in or out of my IL2 folder. There's no launcher.exe, either. And I don't think the second option is an option for me, since I purchased IL2 via Steam. It looks like both options are for direct IL2 installations, not Steam installations.

*sigh*

In your case there are 2 options.
1.- delete the contents of the folder "[Game folder] updates
- start the game using the shortcut on the desktop or file launcher.exe from the [Game folder]\bingame
After that you should start the process of updating the game.
Wait for the process to update the game and run the game.

2.- remove all game files
- Download the installer from the tab "Download" in your profile on our website
- install the game
- start the game using the shortcut on the desktop or file launcher.exe from the [Game folder]\bingame
After that you should start the process of updating the game.
Wait for the process to update the game and run the game.

Same to me !  Two weeks ago I've purchased IL-2 on steam.

And from the beginning on, after the second or third start up via Steam I get the same application hangs on a regular basis (like many other users on steam forum, reddit and on this forum have described).  After this "routine of IL-2.exe crashes" (sigh, in the meanwhile it has become some sort of routine) I always have to do a steam repair of my IL-2 root folder, and at the end the steam repair assistant always finds 1 for 2 faulted files - which one ?  I don't know  :( .....

It's becoming particular worse in conjunction with Andre's SimShaker Wing software for my Jetseat during start up - most of these attempts even end up with a blue or black screen !!!

Very, very annoying and frustrating.  Especially because I've researched and investigated about this bug on so many sites, 've tried to fix it as good as I can, but this crashes still occur and nobody seems to have found a proper solution up till now.

Have you had any other issues with Steam games? As noted  above by some other users, is your Steam folder installed in your x86 program files folder? If so, trying to reinstall Steam elsewhere may sort out some issue there. At the very least that would rule it out.

Thank's for your interest!  No, I never had any issues with steam games like this before, and I've five other steam games installed in prallel on the same system.  It is very IL-2.exe related in particular, and I can reproduce these hangs, crashes or even blue screens regularly - so it MUST be a divergence between Steam.exe and the IL-2.exe.

Starting IL-2 directly from the root folder is possible, but it makes no sense to me as a steam customer.  Because with this procedure I am disalllowed to get access over my whole IL-2 purchases (never have purchased anything directly from IL-2 store).

And yes, of course: I'm an old "steam-boy". so installing steam outside the x86 is one of my routine procedures.  It's even installed on a seperate steam-drive.

Well, that was the only idea I had. I think you have to kick this up to il2 or steam support
