T6-ADStukadriver Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 After flying a ground attack mission last weekend, when I reviewed the mission record/video (and saw how terrible I was at releasing bombs and strafing), I enjoyed seeing the detail level of the tanks and other wheeled vehicles on the ground. In ROF, I used to get a kick out of flying low over No-Man's Land and seeing the battles underway which included tracer fire. This leads me to ask...I know that the Germans used a lot of colored flares to mark their positions on the ground in an effort to avoid being hit by their own ground attack aircraft. And they used flags/colored markers on the ground for identification, as well. Just wondering if such additional features are being contemplated for the official release version of this Sim. (Incidentally, the Soviet side of the conflict also used flares to confuse the enemy into dropping artillery or bombs on their own forces.)
FlatSpinMan Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 That would be cool. I don't think we can expect too much complexity on the ground at release though. Hope I'm wrong though. The new AA gunners look great.
ParaB Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I do hope we'll see this kind of interaction in the release. Flares are already in RoF, shouldn't be too difficult to implement e.g. simple scripts that fire off flares when aircraft are within range.
FuriousMeow Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Yes, I'd say that it's quite probable they will exist. As ParaB said, they do it in RoF - and the flares are activated when aircraft are within a vicinity of balloons. So a flare will go off near the balloon with a particular color, and if the balloon comes under attack then another colored flare goes off.
LLv44_Mprhead Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 This reminds me of something I just read; in summer 1944, France, Canadian ground troops were using yellow smoke to mark their positions. Now guess what was the colour of smoke RAF used to mark the targets...
=FI=Macca Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 They came from the same storage; ) had to be same color; ) As the battle of Stalingrad was very intense it makes me think how will this be shown in BOS. At least iv the vicinity of the mission area.
Finkeren Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) I don't have the time right now to dig up the right entry in the DD, but it has been said at some point, that in addition to the ground observers giving you information via radio, the ground forces will indeed use flares to signal you. That's an important part of the reason why the flares were ported from RoF to BoS in the first place. Edited February 20, 2014 by Finkeren

unreasonable Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 It's all part of the evil British plan to keep the Commonwealth man down Oh no, I do not think any Briton has ever said that Canadians are yellow!
