[MOD]Mod career , random skins wingers by squadron is possible

Hi

It is finally possible to assign different skin for each aircraft of a squadron randomly, this gives variety in the game.

This is particularly interesting for having wingers with very different decorations when flying in Luftwaffe squadrons, so I started with the JG52 kuban campaign squadrons that are available in large numbers in the community.

It is true  that  given the combined speeds and the distances of combat this is less visible than in ROF on planes of WW1 but is very interesting anyway.

On the other hand it is a big job to assign all the skins of your "Graphic" folder in the 2 files to modify "Skins tab" and "skins"

File « skins tab » in Graphic Folder

"graphics\Skins\Bf109G4\Bf109G4_skin_09.dds" "04221F8A" "9" "LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\Bf109G4.txt" "Tonne" "Oblt. Wolfgang Tonne, 3./JG 53 commander, Tunisie, Printemps 1943 (Modèle tropical)"

"graphics\Skins\Bf109G4\Bf109G4_skin_10.dds" "22C523BB" "10" "LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\Bf109G4.txt" "Hartmann" "Lt. Erich Hartmann, 7./JG 52, Kuban, Printemps 1943"

"graphics\Skins\Bf109G4\Bf109G4_13_JG52_Yellow2.dds" "" "" "LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\Bf109G4.txt" "Yellow_2" "13_JG52 Yellow 2"

"graphics\Skins\Bf109G4\JG52_Bf109G4_Jan_Reznak.dds" "" "" "LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\Bf109G4.txt" "JG52_Bf109G4_Jan_Reznak" ""

"graphics\Skins\Bf109G4\Bf109G4_4_JG52_W04.dds" "" "" "LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\Bf109G4.txt" "White_4" "13_JG52"

"graphics\Skins\Bf109G4\4k_Bf109G4_4JG52_W03.dds" "" "" "LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\Bf109G4.txt" "White_3" "13_JG52"

File  « skins » in « SCG » folder and « 15Skin » in « script » folder orf « SCG »

                                            name="13.(slow.)/JG 52"

                                            probweight=01

                              [end]

                              [skin]

                                            plane="LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\Bf109G4.txt"

                                            skin="Bf109G4\JG52_Bf109G4_Jan_Reznak.dds"

                                            name="13.(slow.)/JG 52"

                                            type=0//0 - common, 1 - ace

                                            probweight=01

                              [end]

               [end]

[end]

By cons I put the line "probweig = 01" it seems to me that it is the best value to affect the maximum of skin in a squadron but I'm not sure ... in my case it works.

In sample 2 of my files are attached

you have to put in folder 15 of the SCG folder for the Kuban campaign and put it in duplicate in the SCG script folder by renaming it "15skin"

For sample my folder "scg"

Marco is absolutely correct, it's a long and tedious process, but it does indeed work and work correctly.

 Here for example, is the start of a career mission over Moscow using the P-47, in this case in skins of the 78th Fighter Group, originally based out of Duxford.

I could not figure out which folder to put your files. Please help me. Write the full path for the files.

For example: \IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\data\scg\15\skins.cfg

Yeah this would be cool if it was built in... such a pain, I just don't think I have the "game time" to do this for myself.

How would this work for Bodenplatte careers?

MarcoPegase44
Posted (edited)

Hello,

The structure of the Modcareer for Bodenplate is identical.

It is necessary to extract the files corresponding to Bodenplate .. it is the career number 18 of the folder Scg and to give him the skins which you wish and to modify the file "skin.tab" in the folder skin.

Hello,
You must create folders at the indicated locations;
in folder "data" then

folder "scg"

then "15" for BOK (folder "13"forBom, folder "14"forBOS, ,"folder "18" forBODP),put skin files for the corresponding campaign.

than folder"sript" et put the files "13skin" in "13, "14skin" in "14" , same for "15" and for"18"

see For sample in attachementessai skin Bodenlate.zipskins.tab.zip

This is a nice mod. I wanted such a possibility for a long time.

Why can't we have this facility as a standard game feature.

I remember that in Pacific Fighters we had that facility to build squadrons with distinct numbering for each plane.

Thanks for this mod.

Can someone please tell me where within the game files can I find the skins.tab.eng file, as it needs to be updated whenever new planes are added to the game. Is it in one of the .gtp files?

Thanks for any help.

Hello,
The "SkinTab" file is only used to display skin thumbnails for the skin selection menu in the briefing.

This file is not useful if you are not creating new thumbnails for your skins.

This file is in a "GTP" skin or swf file, I don't know anymore.

In attachment the last "Skintab" file of the game as well as mine.

I recommend making a backup of it and blocking it read-only and updating it when creating each new plane in the game.

You just have to modify the "skins" files in scg and "xxskins" in the "script" folder of "scg" to have a whole series of different skins for the player's squadron by adding the names of your skin files.

On the other hand I did not manage to understand the utility and the mode of operation of the line: probweight = 100 for each skin in the files of scg.

It also seems that the aces function is not active in the modcareer.

If anyone can help me.

These files can be found in the "GTP" folders named "SCG", "SWF" and "campaign" for some of Bopb.

otherwise you can create folders manually as for any windows folder

As an example I attach you my personal file that I use for Bopb

What I have indicated is the working principle of the allocation of skins by squadron, the attached files are examples.

You need to customize them according to the aircraft skins you have installed in your Graphic / Skins folder.

Everyone must customize it according to their installation of the skins.

It is therefore not a ready-to-use mod directly.

Then if you want to activate descativer with JSME, it is possible

Hi Marco, thanks for this interesting mod!

Was doing some testing and I've added some skins to other non-player squadrons in the skins.cfg, unfortunately those non-player flights always share the same skin.

Am I doing something wrong (maybe the probweight value?) or is this still something that can't be bypassed?

Thanks!

Hello,

the career mod only allows you to manage different skins per pilot for the player's squadron.

For AI squadrons, this doesn't seem possible..there is only one unique skin per squadron at a time in a mission.

If you put different skins for the AI squadrons, only one skin will be selected per mission.

Probweight only allows you to set the percentage odds of having a skin.

I've been studying the structure of this mod and if I understand it correctly, a neutral squadron-specific "generic" skin could hypothetically be assigned to every aircraft in every individual squadron in the career. That would be a much better solution than manually assigning a specific skin to every wingman in your flight at the start of a mission. I am specifically thinking of the P-38 and P-47 squadrons that currently in Bodenplatte are by default all "factory fresh." A very basic series of blank skins with underside invasion stripes, fuselage squadron codes and representative color markings would hugely improve the USAAF flyer experience. Maybe that's a project for after the Normandy release when we know what will be done with the new tactical markings system.

Does this mod still work? I've tried everything I can think of and I can't get my skins to appear in the career as default squadron skins.

The screenshot below is what I'm trying to achieve as my "default" skins for 508th FS, 404th FG. I made these skins in GIMP  and it was a great learning experience. They look good in the game but I have to assign each skin manually prior to a career mission.

image.jpeg.c1e98894a3aca998f6ecba21abab62ee.jpeg

These are my skin files in their proper folders:

image.jpeg.fb01901ffbc5b3429239452e3b277a2f.jpeg

This is how I edited the squadron information in "skins.cfg" which I then duplicated and renamed the copy to "18skins.cfg":

[squadron=103508]
    [period]
        period="1944.09.17","1945.04.01"
        [skin]
            plane="LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\P47D22.txt"
            skin="404_FG_508_FS.dds"
            name="508th Fighter Squadron, 404th FG"
            type=0 //0 - common, 1 - ace
            probweight=100
        [end]
        [skin]
            plane="LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\P47D28.txt"
            skin="404_FG_508_FS.dds"
            name="508th Fighter Squadron, 404th FG"
            type=0 //0 - common, 1 - ace
            probweight=100
        [end]
    [end]
[end]

I created an "scg" folder in Data. I then created two subfolders in SCG:  "18" and "Script". Each subfolder has both "skins.cfg" and "18.skins.cfg".

I edited "skins.tab" with these additional lines, which has caused my new skins to be added to the game's "Default" skins menu:

// P-47D-22 skins

"graphics\Skins\P47D22\404_FG_508_FS.dds" "" "15" "LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\P47D22.txt" "7J" "508th FS, 404th FG."

// P-47D-28 skins

"graphics\Skins\P47D28\404_FG_508_FS.dds" "" "15" "LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\P47D28.txt" "7J" "508th FS, 404th FG."

I've been at this for several days and I'm out of ideas. Can anybody see what I'm doing wrong? No matter what I do or how many different skins I add to the squadron, all of my flight's skins are the default clean, no markings.

I've created/added generic skins with squadron codes for all of the Spitfire IXe squadrons and I'm now working on the P-38 squadrons. This is a very long haul project but it is satisfying to see different squadrons providing top cover for my squadron of marked P-47s.

In today's mission the escort was USAF-marked P-51Bs (default skin) flown by the RAF. I'd like to work on fixing that but I'm not finding any P-51B or Mustang II units in the skins file, either downloadable here or on the career HQ's big map in the game. Are they in the game's current skins file? And how do I get a copy of the most recent files?

EDIT:  I figured it out. unGTP.

In the previous answers i don't see clearly what et where should i write my pilot's name in the .cfg file.

Is there a chance that a step-by-step tutorial for all of this could appear soon ? ?

Thank you and merci for the frenchies down there ! ?

Hello,

Your game is configured in which language ???.

Because in my mod I have provided the "skintab" file in English.

Hi,
I've just changed the language in the startup.vfg file from french to english.
Is it enough or do i need to make a clean new installation of the whole game ? ?
