Stig Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Hi, I recently bought a Saitek Cessna trim wheel, but BoS doesn't recognise it when I try to set it for Pitch trim or Adjustable stabilizer. Has anyone here got this trim wheel working? /Stig
feuervogel Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Yes, I got my Saitek trim wheel for a long time and it is working in ROF and IL2. At first I was confused like you, the sim won't recognize input ... but you have to move the wheel for a loooong time, forward and backwards. And of course you have to connect it to one of the USB ports ... hehehehehe ... I hope this helps :-) 1
Stig Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 Thanks for the replies. I've got it working in Cliffs of Dover, so I guess I must have remembered to connect to the USB port I thought I'd tried both moving the wheel a long time and beginning in neutral, but I'll just have to give it another go on friday.
Aracno Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Hi Stig, I have the same problem. I moved the wheel from full up to full down for minutes, it does not work, at least for me. And, yes, i know how to set it, and i'm able to read the wizard by myself.
Aracno Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Have you tried to apply the axis in a different column? It shouldn't make a difference but is worth a try. If it does make a difference it would certainly need to be reported as a bug. (Only two days to wait to test again...) I tried all, changing colunmn, turning fast, turning slow, starting from middle, from full up and from full down. No way, i turned so much that the wheel became hot ...
=Xone_96=Allen_and_Heath Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I tried all, changing colunmn, turning fast, turning slow, starting from middle, from full up and from full down. No way, i turned so much that the wheel became hot ... Same here! Its use to be recognized at the begin (even those the trims are not implemented yet, but still we use to have possibility to mapped). During the last session in December, the function was broken! I assume since there are no trims at the moment the dev decide to exclude this option for a while, but I realize something else! The Saitek trim wheel is not an axe it is an encoder - and after I check the rest of my controls which are use to be encoders as well (MJoy16) I found out that encoders are not support at all!!!
Stig Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 A possible bug then. I'll test again friday, and if no joy, report it in the bug thread.
Aracno Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 .............. report it in the bug thread. Already done: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/2093-controls-gui-texts/page-4
feuervogel Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Just to be sure: Does the wheel work in the controller window?
Stig Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Already done: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/2093-controls-gui-texts/page-4 Thanks, then I'll just sit back and wait. @Feuervogel Yes , it works in controller window..
=Xone_96=Allen_and_Heath Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Just to be sure: Does the wheel work in the controller window? Yes! And not only there! It works in ROF, so the problem is not with the unit itself
feuervogel Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Great, must have been a gremlin or something ... Enjoy new update.
Stig Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 Yes, works now, but it was a bitch and a half doing it. It seems to me it can only be assigned to either Pitch Trim or Adjustable Stabilizer, but not both?
Stig Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 Ok, thanks patience is a virtue, they say:)
buster_dee Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I haven't played the game much and have probably missed a lot of discussion on this. I use a FFB2 and normally use the throttle as my trimmer since I also have CH pedals and throttle. I've seen comments that trim works in "some" things, but I can't figure out any way (axis or just keys), not that I've been systematic in my trials. The FFB pressure to climb is more than I have patience for (before I get my head slapped, as an amateur modeler, I work on games more than play them, so my flights are generally just about admiring other people's work). Anyway, I don't mean to steal this thread from Stig. I was just hoping someone could point me to any discussion about what can and can't be done with regards to trim, and which aircraft it applies to. Well, at least I came out of my cave long enough to learn that someone makes a trim wheel. Next on my gift list
Eckhart Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 How did you program your Cessna wheel? "fall back", "directional axis", "unprogrammed". I get the wheel in the control panel but I am unable to get it in the game. Do you use a hub or do you have it connected directly to your computer?
Stig Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 I don't know what you mean by programming the Cessna wheel? I've got mine plugged directly to the computer. Getting it to work in the game was a matter alt-tabbing from the game GUI to the control panel, to see the slider's position, and then just keep turning the wheel until the game picks it up

There must be something wrong the way it is coded with BOS

There must be something wrong the way it is coded with BOS I agree, it was not a problem getting it to work in Il2 Cliffs either. However, it wiil work in BoS, it is a matter of perserverance and it was bloody frustrating, so let's hope that at least it will work better in the final realease, if not before.
Eckhart Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Bump...still not working several months later? Any help regarding the Pro Flight Cessna Trim Wheel (works great in ROF and FSX!)
Eckhart Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Hourray it works since the last update! What a pleasure to fly with proper trim! Thank you! 1
Dakpilot Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Is this on Bf 109 or does it also now work on other aircraft as well, thanks for info Cheers Dakpilot
Eckhart Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Is this on Bf 109 or does it also now work on other aircraft as well, thanks for info Cheers Dakpilot I assigned the wheel to the stabilizer so it works only on the 109s. Unfortunately pitch trim works only with keys and I haven't tried to bind keys to my Cessna wheel through the Saitek software. One advice though, on the runway move your Cessna wheel and observe the numbers of the trim wheel: as soon as you move the wheel, the ingame trimming bounces back to the last trim you did during a previous flight. Just be careful and dial in your "2" before take-off, otherwise you get a bouncy surprise when you are going to trim for level flight. Such a pleasure to use and extremely precise...another good step forward towards immersion....still waiting for triple screen hor+ getting implemented (http://www.wsgf.org/article/screen-change) to make me perfectly happy...it is a great game!
JG5_Schuck Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Does anybody know if you can use two Cessna pro wheels in game? The 109 had the two wheels to the left one for trim/stabilizers and one for flaps. I know flaps are not able to be assigned an axis yet, just buttons, but fingers crossed the will eventually. By the way, the wheel works really well for manual prop pitch adjustment to. I have no issues assigning multiple task to the wheel either.

I would like to buy (and find first) 2 of those but only if I know they'll work in the game. Have a nice day.
