6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 (edited) It most likely isn't practical, as it requires extremely tight Tolerances and lots of Moving Mass. I doubt something like that would run for very long. Edited January 26, 2019 by 6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann

AndyJWest Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 An engine of this configuration was certainly built and tested. It isn't entirely clear whether the Marchetti Cam Engine was ever flown. https://oldmachinepress.com/2014/09/28/marchetti-cam-action-engines/ 2

II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 (edited) Not an engine guy by any stretch but doesn’t this firing order essentially make it a very exotic four cylinder? Also, I thought there was an engineering reason for odd numbers of cylinders on a given row for radial engines. (Cleaned up my double post) Edited January 27, 2019 by II/JG17_HerrMurf Clarity
6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 The Italians always did that Cam-Stuff. This is a Springless Valvetrain, with Cams operating opening and Closing of Valves.
DD_Arthur Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 Oh dear Klaus. You've just reminded me of the 1978 Ducati Darmah I once owned. It was my pride and joy for approx. 2 months until a circlip in the gearbox broke. The rebuild - which involved splitting the crankcases - cost more than what I'd payed for the bloody thing in the first place. 1

Bremspropeller Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 First we had the boxer engine, now we have a brawl engine. I wonder what's next.
