Career : Very Fast Recovery from Injuries

Recommended Posts

Hi all !

I started only 1 career untill now, in BoM, and I got wounded something like 4 times yet ! ?

Everytime I was back in the business 1, 2 or 3 days later if I recall. Most of them were looking like light injuries but once, I was quite badly wounded if I judge by the rather dark bloody screen I had. I was expecting a long time before being back, but not.

Also, I believe that everytime we manage to land we are able to survive, aren't we ? Should we die eventually when very seriously wounded (very dark screen then) from time to time ?

Any opinions ?

I am happy with it as it is, although stretching the wound period a few more days would be alright as well.  It is just a game mechanic that gives you a warning for being too easily hit but allows you to keep playing.  Not sure what the longest period is in BoX.

IIRC the longest wound period in RoF was about ten days, but 4-5 days was fairly frequent - in RB3D you used to get back to base after being wounded only to be told that you were crippled and out of the war, which was always a bit of a let down.

On the other hand if bailing out were harder (speed, gs etc) and more dangerous (hitting fin, chute not opening) I would be happy with that.

There are different levels of damage to the pilot so the difference between light and severe wounds is there.

How about starting a career as...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexey_Maresyev

So when you're badly wounded and you don't return to the front line for months, you won't be surprised to NOT see your legs when you look down!

What? too soon!

In Il-2 1946 a severe injury was keeping you out of the game for several weeks if I remember, I'd like to see it back in BoX. I would like those recovery times be more realistic, whatever the numbers.

So what is your actual maximum period at infirmery guys ? It looks like it's never more than a few days..

for me 3 or 4 days max, but its very rare to be wounded in this game. You have destroyed canopy, cockpit instruments, engine shot to pieces, but you are still ok.

In multiple careers I was wounded max 2-3 times what I remember

Lol this is a funny subject. If you got badly injured you may miss the war or not be allowed to return to active duty. It would make for a very interesting game.

If you die you wont return as well. So whats the difference? Also it would definitely be an option to choose if you want realistic recovery time or not so everyone would be happy.

slightly injured - 5-15 days

badly injured - 1-2 months

Also I would like to have some home leave after being promoted or decorated

Investigating further my longer recovery retirement was 5 days long, counting the very day I suffer the injuries.

I was wounded many, many times in my IL-2 ground attack campaign.  Still the longest was just 5 days.

It once took me some 15 seconds to bail out a burning cockpit and the result was a mere few days in sickbay. In real life the pilot would have been BARBECUED TO DEATH.

But I assume some concessions must be made, this is a game afterall.

That would all work in the RoF Career where you could fly continuously from Sep 1916 (IIRC) to the end of the war, but the BoX careers are already fairly short episodes. Since you can get promoted extremely quickly, you could spend most of the career on leave!

That said, I am always in favour of the player having options:  as long as they are not imposed on me!

The capability for an extended career in BoX is almost as long as RoF.  RoF can do mid 1916 (with some less than optimal plane substitutions) to end of war - 2 1/2 years.  RoF is really more comfortable going Jan 1917 to end of war.  BOX can go from October 1941 to  the beginning of 1944, so 2 years and two months.

In PWCG serious wounds cause the pilot to miss months where lighter wounds can vary from days to weeks.  Players can choose 4 levels of vulnerability: never injured, lightly wounded at worst, seriously wounded at worst,  dead or captured ends career.

I guess in some ways I a sound like I am shilling for PWCG (and deep down I no doubt am doing just that :) ) but the larger point is I know many of the requests being made can be implemented because I have already done it.
