Dagwoodyt Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 (edited) I bought this combo because it was the last one in stock. I just couldn’t resist. I didn’t set it up for a while after its arrival because I was pleased with my Warbrd center mount setup. Part of the delay was the matter of figuring out how to center mount the stick with its extention given furniture-imposed constraints. Anyway that’s all been addressed now so here is what I see as noteworthy: I am flying faster now. My typical test setup is 1v1 MiG-3 vs “ace” Bf 109 G2 AI. In reviewing a Tacview file made pre-GF Pro I now recognize just how slowly I was turning. Frequently my speeds were near 200kph and of course regaining energy was a slow process. Also, in retrospect, I would have been having to keep radiators WFO to avoid overheating. So the G2 simply motored up and away. In essence, with the GF Pro properly center mounted, I am no longer over controlling the MiG. My speed in turns has dramatically increased. As an apparently related effect I don’t have to open radiators as widely as before. Given correspondingly hi-res pedals, keeping coordinated during maneuvering also is easier. Actually in normal flight I don’t even hold the stick. I can rest my right forearm on thigh and control the MiG using finger tips on the palm rest instead. Yes, I landed the MiG doing that. I have been flying sims since the 1980’s and only now am able to understand what a substantial problem over control represents when you are unable to recognize its presence. WheelwrightPL Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 I agree that ergonomics are often neglected yet crucial component of immersive flight sims. You have a very nice "historical" setup with a central joystick and hi-res pedals. However, you can still get a pretty good flight experience with a more modest setup when you design it around sound ergonomic principles. All you need is a chair with an armrest, a joystick which is immobilized (in this case screwed to the desk), and a monitor at proper height. Also a helicopter-style T-rudders are preferred in this more compact setup because unlike other types they take little space and do not cause the chair to wobble. And as a point of interest: modern jets do not use centrally placed joysticks (see for example Rafale cockpit) therefore I don't think it provides much of an objective advantage other than recreating historical context (nothing wrong with that of course).
