CB77Don246 Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Have had steam on my PC for Train simulator and Cliff of Dover and I have had so much problems with it that is Steam I am so glad I did not buy IL2 Battles on Steam. So in my opinion they can stuff Steam up were the sun don't shine for me RUBBISH so much trouble. It is coming off my PC I can live without CLOD and TS, I have the best simulator in the world with IL2 Battles. 2
Nil Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Yes it is so great that we have the option to use Il2 without steam... I did not linked my account with steam personally bacause I love the liberty to not have to run steam. 1 1
CanadaOne Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I have DCS on Steam, and it's given me a few unfriendly surprises. But it does seem to work fine most of the time. But the installs and updates of BOX are so butter smooth through this place I would never let Steam touch my IL2 install.
NETSCAPE Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 With 90 million active monthly users it's safe to say Steam is doing something right. I don't understand the anti-steam sentiment in this community. Steam works great and is highly efficient and convenient for the consumer. For the developer it requires a pretty significant slice of their pie, so not so good in that regard. 11 hours ago, TG1_Nil said: Yes it is so great that we have the option to use Il2 without steam... Steam DL speed is far faster in my experience. 2

Must be location dependent. 26 minutes ago, NETSCAPE said: With 90 million active monthly users it's safe to say Steam is doing something right. I don't understand the anti-steam sentiment in this community. You are saying the interests of the Steam comunity are thar same as Valves? Some people think not: https://www.polygon.com/2017/5/16/15622366/valve-gabe-newell-sales-origin-destructive
NETSCAPE Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 oh actually the speed is probably slow because i am thinking of the il-2 beta/test versions being installed. Makes sense.
SYN_Vander Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 No need for Steam and it's better for devs (and for you in the end) if you buy directly from their website.

Actually there is a need for steam. Many developers realize this, so did 1C - that's why their game is on Steam also. It should be pretty obvious why... to boost player amount and sales. Pretty simple.
DD_Arthur Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 In the long run, Steam is bad for everyone. Monopolys always are and when it comes to PC gaming Steam is close to becoming one. I've only got Steam so I can run Cliffs. If TFS could give us the option to run Cliffs without Steam, I'd be more than happy. 1
dburne Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 (edited) Only reason I have Steam is for VR as IL-2 only uses Steam VR. If not for that I would not have it. All my IL-2 GB content is purchased direct from 1CGS. Edited January 13, 2019 by dburne
Dogbert1953 Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 (edited) If the Great Battles modules had been Steam only buys, i would not have purchased them. I really dislike Steam. Mike. Edited January 13, 2019 by Dogbert1953

Yeah like having to install and to use another program each time I use a program I already purchased is convenient.... I understand the anti steam in this community, Even if I do not understand it, the community has the right to willing to give 100% of their money to the dev team, Steam is good because it allows the dev to reach new customers. But the customers have the right to not use Steam. I am so grateful to the dev team to give us the choice to use Steam or not. 1

Of course there is a need/use for steam. 90% of my games are on Steam. I'm saying for this particular title you don't HAVE to use steam as the update mechanism is very good (has been since RoF) and other reasons mentioned.
