reddog=11blueleader* Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Hello Fliers, I have a 238GB SSD. With this last update it ate up a lot of disc space. I have only 39 GB left. I am not hard drive savy, so is there any ideas of what can do to get more disc space like maybe go into the 1C game files and put the last update on my E storage drive (1TB) and delete the downloaded update from my C hard drive?? I don't won't to mess anything up so that is why I am asking for ideas. Any help will be appreciated.
FuriousMeow Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 No, the update isn't a separate entity - it is the game. You can't move anything, unless you move the entire game. 39GB is still a lot of space, the update was less than 500MB. So it didn't eat up a whole lot of space.

Emgy Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 bos update folder should auto-clean itself, but if you wanna be 100% sure, go to x:\Programs\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\updates and see how big the update folder is. Mine is around 250mb now.
reddog=11blueleader* Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 Hi Calvamos, my update folder has a TON of update info. Hundreds of thousands of KB's. Should this be emptyed?? All from this last update it looks like.
Emgy Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 (edited) hmm, 300'000 kilobytes = 292 megabytes, this is quite normal, not so different from my 250MB update folder. And your 238GB disk = 243'712 MB. So 300MB is not so much :-)Maybe some other software gobbled up your HD space? It can be things like the itunes sync folder, or spotify cache limit set too high. Charlo-VRde Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 If you also have Rise of Flight and many of its skins, or perhaps some other software that placed large amounts of data on your SSD, these two resources for creating "symbolic links" may help: "How to move Skins directory to other drive (to save space)" at http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=38659Video that explains it similarly (though for some reason he uses /J instead of /D): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBBY2nFtnIAIn the video I learned you need to put both paths in quotation marks (that was not explicitly explained in "How to move Skins directory to other drive (to save space)"). I used the above to move 8.64 GBs of ROF skins off my SSD and onto an internal 7200 rpm spinning drive. You could use the above techniques to perhaps move other types of data from your SSD. I don't think storing skins for BoS is relevant yet, but when when we eventually start getting a bunch of skins, I plan to use the same technique to store BoS skins off my SSD. In my own case I still have 35 GBs free on an 111 GB SSD I bought 2 1/2 years ago. Charlo
FuriousMeow Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Thanks FuriousMeow, we are cat lovers to. Like your avatar Thanks. That particular little girl was found riding in the wheel well of a HMMWV for somewhere around 6 hours from a NG Armory in Southern VA to Ft AP Hill a few years ago. Definitely a stray that had become separated from her stray mom and lost, and then climbed into a HMMWV and held on for dear life for several hours as the company made it's way to Annual Training. She was well taken care of by the medical platoon for a week until she was adopted by the family of an officer and went on to enjoy a life with a loving family that took very good care of her.
reddog=11blueleader* Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 Thank you FuriousMeow for saving her little life. I'm so glad the Medical staff took good care of her. Charlo, I like your avatar as well, very cute! I won't to thank you all who replied and like Calvamos said, after seeing his figures, IL 2 did not take up much space at all. I will go through my C drive and clean it up for more space. Thanks for the video showing how to move my ROF skins to my storage drive. That will help a whole lot. Keep the blue side up and happy hunting to all! Regards Lamar Wright
